Home Alone 3 was actually written by John Hughes and with the intention of Macauley Culkin returning as Kevin. Originally it was to have shot back to back with 2. After Culkin and his management vetoed that, the understanding was he'd come back to it later. However in 1994, Culkin retired from acting and by 1996 when the film was finally made he was 16. Old enough to drive, so not exactly in peril at being left Home Alone.

The original home alone and Home Alone 2 will forever be the number one movies of my childhood. My grandmother and I used to watch it together constantly there is a picture of either 5-year-old or 6 year old me on Christmas holding my copy of the original Home Alone on VHS.. with a gigantic smile on my face.. even though we didn't take a picture of me with the second one at any point during my childhood.. believe me I loved it just as much! My grandmother used to imitate Joe Pesci's mumbling perfectly.. if I think about it I can still hear her doing it. Years later as an adult I found out he did that because he was having a hard time keeping himself from cursing.. so they came up with the idea for him to mumble.. thank you Joe Pesci.. you made me have many special memories with my grandmother.

In terms of post Home Alone 2 I've always found Home Alone 3 quite good and I genuinely enjoyed Holiday Heist, 4 was terrible though... haven't seen the newest one, need to get on that (especially since it's got Aisling Bea in it) but no matter what I think of it i'm sure it'll be better than 4. I think it's better to just make new stories based on new characters instead of trying to do the whole McAllister story again.

Home Alone 3 is not bad. Its starts off a new chapter following a different set of characters but is the same gags and quality as the other 2. Not bad for a plan b as John originally wrote a Home Alone 3 for Culkin as a teenage but he quit acting in 94. So he scrapped it and wrote the Home Alone 3 we know today. Not bad just slightly different then the first 2. The last 3 were straight to tv junk.

I agree, it's genuinely a movie i like a lot. And i expected to hate it as i was a huge fan of the first 2 when it released. Only reason i watched it is because i won it on vhs in a competition. Expected it to be as bad as Addams Family Reunion (the only straight-to-video sequel i'd seen at the time.) Though unless i'm mistaken i think it did get a brief theatrical run. I'm glad it wasn't what i expected. It's underrated.

@@BabyGirlTiny Well 3 was going to be inline with the first 2 with kevin being older and probably a little more hardcore on the traps. But he retired from acting so there was nothing they could do other then not make a 3 at all. The truth is the 3 is as good in every way. The only thing missing from 3 that the first 2 had is some star power and well known names in the cast that's it. Everything else was right on par with the first 2.

The first is a definite Christmas classic for me and the second is really good as well. Looks like they got cheesier and cheaper the more they went on. Just a cash grab off the name. So sad that they can't just leave things well alone.

*Unpopular opinion:* I love the 3rd one. I think Alex was so sweet and adorable, and his parents being busy with work is far more realistic than flying off on vacation lol. Alex became his own iconic character and his traps were so much fun. His relationship with his mom was far more understanding than Kevin's. Don't get me wrong, ! and 2 are _superior,_ but I genuinely believe 3 was the last good Home Alone, not 2 lol

My 4 year old was addicted to Home Alone 1 and 2 last year, but he has completely stopped acknowledging those two and will only watch 3 now. I'm not sure what it is, but it has made actually pay attention to many of the gags I didn't catch as a kid. And to that point, "You should have taken driver's ed" gets me rolling every time!

I watched all 6 and love all of them. I will defend Home Alone 3 forever lol and I have a soft spot for Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (I grew up watchin this one on VHS many times so it's a guilty pleasure for me) and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist. Even I can acknowledge that Home Sweet Home Alone isn't really good but I was entertained enough that I could watch it and have a good laugh. Ofc the first 2 are the better ones but that doesn't mean the others should be dismissed. The sequels were never meant to be better than the first 2. They were meant be entertaining in different but similar ways like those 2. If ppl like them just as much or received respectfully, then that's a plus. But everybody hates all of them after 2, with sum liking 3. I enjoy all the stories they tell and I will continue to watch.

I look at the 3rd film being similar to Halloween 3, Home alone 3 still takes place around Christmas, Halloween 3 takes place during the days leading up to Halloween. They just tweaked a couple of things in both respective sequels. Instead of Kevin we got a new character. In Halloween 3 instead of Michael Myers being the big bad, it was a mask company. I liked it.

This got me going down the Home Alone rabbit hole. How could you not mention Stoned Alone in the future of the series part? An R rated, Ryan Reynolds produced, parody/spiritual sequel/sequel to Home Alone, staring Macaulay Culkin as a now stoner adult Kevin McCallister, who gets stoned, misses his flight, and must then work out if his house is really getting broken into, or if it's just weed induced paranoia. Unfortunately, it got put into development hell after Home Sweet Home Alone was announced, but God I hope this sees the light of day, it sounds incredible!

I'm really not a fan of "Home Alone 2". I watched "Home Alone 3" the other day on a whim, and to my surprise, I actually kinda liked it, for the reasons you mentioned. I just wasn't a fan of the climax when it got too silly and many of the slapstick gags looked fake. Overall though, it's still kind of enjoyable in its own way.

Rob and Georgette are the Uncle and Aunt whos under-renovated home was not the target of the bandits, because there was nothing in the house of value that would give them the opportunity to rob, it was not the home itself Keven was tying to protect, he was trying to save himself as well as the children's hospital adjacent to where Mr. Duncan is concerned on that front. Home Alone 3 is the second weirdest Home Alone non-cannon film ever, but it also brings out the biggest laughs than you ever get out of the other five films altogether with Home Alone Holiday Heist being the first weirdest (and I don't mean by release order or continuation order, because neither of them have anything to do with each other anyway).

I like "Home Alone: Take Back The House", because of much of the originality and it kind of gives off "The Blank Check", type vibe to it as well as the Christmas spirit you expect to see in a Home Alone film, but my only beef with it, is that it is not the proper sequel that the director claims it to be, because HA 2 Lost in NY was already 'the' sequel, and the only "Proper" sequel to that, that we got to go on with is the sixth instalment of the franchise.

After watching home alone 1 for the 999th time I still think it’s one of the best comedy films. It wasn’t just about the booby traps and slapstick comedy but it had emotional themes about family/ friendships/ being kind and good. These other films which I’ll never watch seem to lack this. Also the scripts and acting seems natural compared to these other ones. The music by John Williams and soundtrack choice are l unforgettable.

Home Sweet Home Alone isn't a Disney+ exclusive, I've seen it on Netflix before, or maybe it was Vudu. I don't know, all I know is I seen the movie before and don't have Disney+. nor have I ever bought Disney+ before so if someone else remembers seeing it on another streaming service, please reply and let me know which one cause I don't remember.
