There's no need to have a go at Vettel mate even in his Red Bull years he fought tooth & nail in 2010 & 2012. Totally agree, this is the truth, we know well Ferrari is soooo far from being competitive (mentally), and Charles although he is arguably the fastest guy on track, but he is so fragile. I think Charles problem is much less than his team because he could just tone down a bit his driving style and he'll be consistent at the cost of 0.2s per lap maybe, but his team's problem is just fundamentally so wrong, they need a new team leader and strategist, and a whole brand new pit crew.

RBR and Mercedes galvanise around their drivers and they get it together as best they can come rain or shine, when something goes wrong you really know it but not for Ferrari, Ferrari you can be disappointed but not surprised. Ferrari has few problems leaving their drivers at sea for whatever reason, we saw this with Nando and Seb somewhat and the way things crumbled for them and then this year again, Silverstone for Charles recently and France for Carlos. Verstappen and Red Bull are just such a strong pairing, both just thrive under the high pressure. The fight with Mercedes has strengthened them whereas Ferrari still haven’t learned from their fights with Mercedes. There’s just so much more confidence in Red Bull and Verstappen then Leclerc and Ferrari because it’s never a dull race for Ferrari and Leclerc still hasn’t stamped out these errors in the way Verstappen did going from 2020 to 2021. Ferrari is preparing to fight Mercedes for 2nd with a car that's capable of 1st. That's just the kinda team that Ferrari are since the Schumi, Brawn and co left. I'll get lampooned for saying this but we're watching this happen in real time. RBR could legitimately be slower than Ferrari by a couple of ⅒s and they'd still be a comfortable bet for the championships. Like something there in the team isn't gelling, and it's hurting the potential and ultimate capability of the team. Ferrari shouldn't be out of contention at this stage of the season.

I think of Leclerc vs Verstappen as Hakkinen and Schumacher. One is ultra fast the person who can set a lap on fire but has a bit of a rough edge, the otehr one is still ultra fast but reliable. Leclerc has binned it on this race but I still feel that his level right now is pretty good, if he loses the title the blame would be on Ferrari and Leclerc but more towards Ferrari since their strategy calls and car reliablity is worse than a fresh dog turd.

To be honest, I feel like with Leclerc this year, part of the issue is the pressure based on Ferrari. I always think of Vettel, being like when he left RB, he thought going to Ferrari, they would work with him, and as number 1 driver he could dictate to make the car suit him. But was soon told, we are Ferrari, we do what we want, and you are just a driver, we don't like you we get rid of you. So just no support, added to immense pressure of being, the hope for Ferrari.

even for a non-Leclerc fan, someone who wants SuperMax and Red Bull to win, hearing the Leclerc radio after the crash was quite sad. He's having to overdrive the car for all the points lost due to reliability in Baku, Spain, strategy blunders in Britain, Monaco. He could've been calm and perhaps accepted p2 if he had the points in hand from not DNF'ing from the lead twice. It's a repeat of Sebastian Vettel in 2018. --I just hope they don't give up on him and sacrifice his career for a season for a low constructors finish and more windtunnel time for the future.--

I think the best way of summing it up is that aside from the exception of the Schumacher years, Ferrari has historically always been a highly chaotic team and squandered so many opportunities to win titles with some of the best drivers on the grid. They went 21 years without winning the driver's championship before Schumacher won in 2000, and even that was after a four year wait when people doubted whether he would. After that, Kimi only won one and was ditched after a couple of years, despite being signed as Michael's replacement, Alonso went there considered the best driver on the grid at the time and was expected to win championships, and he didn't (Ferrari strategic error arguable cost him '10 title in Abu Dhabi), Vettel started off strongly but left the team fairly acrimoniously in the end etc. I just hope that with Leclerc being so young, Ferrari doesn't waste his potential - but I wouldn't be surprised if he was already having doubts as to whether he'll ever win a championship whilst he's driving for Ferrari. Currently 14 years and waiting since Ferrari's last championship win.

I dunno how much you can stack on Binotto. This may be the sign of a more deep-rooted, systematic issue with Ferrari. I believe that replacing a team principle may not uproot all of these issues as everyone thinks they will, and will need a more internal, retrospective set of changes in the procedures and mentality of especially the race management side. The engineering seems to mostly be good, the car has good pace and can be made reliable, but the race side seems to flounder and be indecisive at key moments.

I've pointed out the VSC imbalance before. Depending on when it starts and finishes, the drivers can lose extreme amounts of time versus others. If a VSC ends at the beginning of midway through a straight for a driver, then the people behind that driver who returned to racing through a corner will have a huge speed difference at the end off the straight. one potential solution would be to mandate that a VSC must be enable in intervals of full laps so that it ends exactly where it started for everyone, but that is still not going to be consistent and equal for everyone because the same issue applies as outlined above. The true solution to VSC would be that rather than it being enabled globally for every car, it would be enforced locally based on track sectors. That way, if an incident happens in the third sector for instance, the VSC would be enabled in one of the mini sectors near the end of sector 2. If the incident takes a couple of minutes to clear up, then once every car passes that mini sector, they all enter VSC territory at the exact same point on the track, rather than randomly being slowed down globally. Once the incident is cleared, you would select a mini sector that disables VSC somewhere on the track ahead of the lead car and once every car passes that point on track, they get to resume accelerating. Every car slows down at the same point on track and accelerates at the same point. Pace wise, everyone is equal. There's no randomness, there's no guessing, you see exactly the point where VSC ends and you can time your delta accurately. I don't understand why they can't just do that instead.

@WTF1 - on the race direction, are you watching via SkySports or F1TV? F1TV has a lot of side-by-sides throughout the broadcast so you see overtakes while watching the battle for the lead at the same time (or a replay without losing the live race). Is the tv direction complaint really about Sky vs. F1?

Don’t you guys think that LEC is cracking because he has to deal with more pressure than VER. Reliability not fixed compared to RB, team doesn’t have the edge compared to RB and MB, not having a prioritization level as VER and HAM, all of this is added to the already healthy pressure from hard rival competition VER. Same thing happened to VET, him spinning was result of him cracking under all that pressure. Tommy’s comparison on LEC and VET Ferraris carrier is spot on in my opinion.

I think ferrari's been surprised by their own car this year. in the big plan to return to the top, i think this year was supposed to be a fight for 2nd or 3rd but they turned up with a car ready to fight for the championship, but they just did NOT bring the mentality to fight for the championship. they're playing catchup i guess... XD I also think you're overestimating points lost, you said about 70 for max? what about 18 (1st DNF from 2nd) +18 (second DNF from 2nd postition) +19 Silverstone (he'd have won that easily without the damage 25-6) So that's about 55 points lost. Now if you want to be generous and include Monaco.. (since Red bull did get the W there, they could possibly put it in Max hands had they swapped the poit stops, so you could add 10 from that.) you'd end up 65 lost. (i don't want to include monaco.) Charles, 7 for monza? 25 for spain, 13 for monaco, baku 18 (i think 2nd was on the table, but not 1st), (canada can't calculate because penalties anyway..), GB 6 2nd place should have been his and Fra another 18. (dropped out from net 2nd position, don't think he's have made the overtake in the end..) for a conservative total of: 97 points dropped. XD Ok, so your 100 ball park estimate was quite accurate... XD :P

As someone who watched F1 for a few years but just recently got more into it I like this track way more than other. The camera angles don't seem so bad and compared to Monaco everything is better. If anything I will never understand why Monaco is even a thing anymore. Traditions are often stupid and there it's even more so. A track without any reasonable reason to be there. I really didn't get why the Haas pitted under that saftey car. Yes it probably wouldn't have made a difference in the end but coming in just guaranteed that you lost a pitstop and are at the back of the field and in sync with everyone else. Staying out you would have gotten track position and at least have the chance to maybe get lucky with another SC.

After Hungary, I do think the championship is over. 80 point lead for Max now. Verstappen could DNF 3 races that Leclerc wins, and still be P1. Red Bull can almost just coast to the end of the championship, settling with P2 + FL every race, and still win. Unless Red Bull/Max get seriously unlucky with reliability or on-track DNFs, they've basically secured both championships. I'm excited to see how these last 9 races work out, and I'd love a late charge from Ferrari, but I think it's too late.
