I think this is the best Jackie's fight in term of pure martial arts, many may consider the roof top fight in WHO AM I might be the best, but there are some sloppiness cause the actor they using weren't in the same level of Jackie's stunt team. However this fight is the two legends showcase their pure skills, every punch kick is on point, quick, clean and no abundance, there is no single unnecessary attack, it's just perfect.

Brad Allen was a humble guy and said he never wanted to be 'famous' and was more comfortable more behind the camera working martial arts choreography...kind of a big waste really IMO because he was amazing on camera, right up there in talent with the very best martial arts movie stars of all time, and I would have LOVED to see him work ON camera more!
@USMCCombatVet4TastyCrayons3 жыл бұрын
I have to argue with the sentiment that it was "kind of a waste." This immense talent ended up giving movies and television some of the most important action choreography of the last two decades. Hell-boy 2, Kingsman, Scott Pilgrim, Star Wars, and even Shang-chi - which has been dedicated to him. Did we get enough of him on-screen to truly enjoy his physical skills for ourselves? No. Did he do what he wanted and still manage to give us years and years of contributions to both cinematic action and martial arts? Undeniably. I am glad he did what he was happiest doing and he must have been a smart and dedicated person for Jackie Chan to make him the first foreigner welcomed to the JC Stunt Team. So, RIP Brother Allen, and thanks for everything you helped make a bit more amazing to watch!

@@USMCCombatVet4TastyCrayons Well said, JT., true that...I better understand now, Brad Allen did what HE loved and more power to him. And WOW, I said "Brad Allen was." 3 years ago, and he just died recently. "WAS"? I know it was 3 years ago but I really don't recall typing "was" but "is". Kinda spooky lol.

Just FYI about the gloves. At the start of the fight BA gave Jackie the lighter glove which gave Jackie the advantage. The boxing gloves have more padding so the punches doesn't hurt as much. In the scene where they hit each other in the ear, you can see clearly BA took the worst of it because of the padding and he knew it. He asked for time so he can switch gloves. Jackie gave him the shrug, like yeah its only fair, and they continued on with a fair one.

Love the movie. Brad Allen, if not mistaken was one of Jackie’s stunt guys, was given role in this movie. A little background for this movie and scene: Jackie was an orphan who worked for everything and is now successful businessman. He grew up with a friend, that grew up rich, who always competed with and is now is similar business, Jackie uses recycled while other guy uses plastic. Both are successful. The other guy cannot fight well neither can his henchmen (two of them are also in this scene). Jackie has not kept up with his training so the friend brings in Brad Allen, whose smaller then Jackie, in to fight Jackie. At start they both use the smaller gloves, then brad calls timeout to switch to larger ones because of the extra padding. So now Jackie has size and gloves adv. Brad wins. Jackie starts training again, not for revenge. A girl Jackie was dating (first movie where jackie has a romantic lead, I think) and him split and Jackie is sad, why he was alone dropping paper clippings into a bottle. The henchmen bring brad to fight him again to kinda avenge their boss but has to do with the guys business experiencing problems.

The bigger gloves pad the effect of landed punches. He gives Jackie the advantage with the less padded gloves. That’s why later in this fight he then removed his own big gloves to remove his handicap.
@johnbrennan86113 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's almost an insult to Jackie's character, saying you can use the more damaging gloves because I'm so much better.

Brad Allan did a great job coping with the demands of Jackie’s kind of fight choreography; it is very draining and his style is difficult, requiring a lot of sense of timing and natural rhythm, as well as camera awareness. A lot of people outside the fold that tried working in Hong Kong action movies around this time and before struggled with it; a prime example being pointed out in _Jackie Chan: My Stunts_ whilst showing behind-the-scenes footage from _Who Am I?_ In the documentary it says that Ron Smoorenburg struggled with some of the timing of certain parts of the fight scene - you also see Jackie becoming frustrated as a result - and there is one whole section in which Brad doubled him, as the latter coped far better with the timing in that particular scene.

Jackie suddenly smiling like he that was less about the power of love and more about loosening up. As his love interest points out to him, during their first fight he was tense. It's the same in first half of this fight. He's too tensed up, and that can make it a lot harder to fight. By recalling times he spent with her, he was able to let that tension drain out, loosening up his muscles, and allowing him to just enjoy the fight for what it was. There's nothing on the line here, Brad Allen's character isn't malicious in any way as he's just in it to get a good fight, so he can just relax and have fun fighting a friendly rival.

the background of this movie, is jackie chan has a brother, and his brother is kinda like the black sheep, jackie chan is RICH that is his factory, he owns a recycling rubbish factory, and he is a Millionaire, his brother kinda like a big kid and sees jackie as the more succesful and more talented better brother, so in a kinda light hearted brotherly way, he always trys to take jackie down, so eventually he hired this white guy, he said to jackie hes going to find someone, smaller, faster, and if hesbetter lookign even better, and im going get him to beat you in a fight,,, so he beaten by a smaller faster better looking guy, lets see how that makes him feel.... its not in a evil way his brothers just like a big kid... its a comedy drama, and JAckie falls for that girl whose poor country girl, and shes the one that makes him smile cause hes a bussiness man that kinda forgot about having fun.... so explains the smiling bit,, at the end, it makes sense if you watch the movie, thats why ts not a malicious fight, the guys been hired by his brother just to beat him not hurt him.
