This is awkward to say, but I really want to thank you guys for the dry weeks. I finally participated in the most recent one and went through some seriously bad withdrawals, which prompted me to go to a month long rehab. While I know I'll never be able to drink whiskey normally again, I've found myself buying it at bars and just smelling it (as hard as that is. and yes I'll pass it off to a buddy). Anyway, thank you for doing that. It's made for a month sober for me for what I've realized is the first time in 20 years.

When I was reading, what you're describing as a "Queen's Share" or "Queen's Cut" is also commonly called "Special Reserve" or "Distiller's Reserve" At least per reading, this is fairly common with whiskey.

I've tried doing this in my distillation, but it's never as good as the normal heart cut to me. It can be a good blending agent because it brings some of the flavor from the tails, but it's never good on it's own. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong 🤷🏼‍♂️. I usually just add my tails back to the next spirit run.

take a look at Privateer Rum in Massachusetts- they’ve been doing queen’s share releases for a nod to the old rum techniques, and they’ve been pretty interesting, easily some of the best craft rum made in America
