I think Irina means Symphonic Metal as a genre, not symphonic as an adjective. That aside, let's look at the definition: "Symphonic metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music which combines the heavy drums and guitars of metal with different elements of orchestral classical music, such as symphonic instruments, choirs and sometimes a full orchestra." So she is wrong, but that's okay. Music genres are difficult and when things sound but a little different or are simple new, people automatically are sceptic about it. This is about as symphonic as metal gets. It's got the heavy drums and guitars of the harder and rougher metal music, but it also has the orchestral voice, choir and around the 3 minute mark you have the shift that is almost trademark for symphonic metal in which they use destinctively different instruments. Mostly keyboard work, but the fact remains that this falls perfectly under the definition and the song is indeed amazing.

I agree. Theyre doing a USA tour soon and I might go see them in Chicago. They've been on my bucket list of bands I need to see. I've been listening to this band since Silent Force came out and they've always been one of my favorites. Like the Gathering (which I was fortunate enough to see right before Anneke left), if I don't see them I'll hate myself. Also, WT should really think about getting Mick Moss from Antimatter on one of their tracks. His voice and Sharons voice together on a track would be mindblowing.

It took time but the song grew on me. It's just so different but that is true with pretty much every new album now because WT was never afraid of reinventing themselves and won't settle down in a comfort zone which is respectable. I don't know why some people want them to release the same album over and over again instead of trying new things because they are capable of more.

Moonbathers is far from my favorite album by Delain, but I love that it feels to some degree like a collection of their styles over the years. A focus on their most modern style, but still with songs that felt like throwbacks to their older works. I wish more bands did that, instead of trying a new style and keeping it for the entire album, almost alienating some of the older fans. Basically, this song feels like a further evolution from the tonal shift in Hydra, and that's okay, I just hope that unlike Hydra the album _also_ has some songs that feel to some degree like their older works. And I liked Hydra. It just felt like a major shift with very little throwback. I don't know if I was able to word that right.

No one wants them to release the same album over and over again. A lot of people want them to stay true to the style and genre that made them successful, probably (as in my case) because they prefer that genre to the stuff they nowadays play. I'm not disliking the stuff they did on Hydra and I like the new song as well. But them changing the genre has lessened my general interest in the band and while I still listen to their early albums from time to time (especially The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything) , I don't do that with their newer stuff. Not saying it's bad, it just isn't my cup of tea, and yeah, I think it's not as good as their older albums. And just to give a point of comparison, look at Nightwish. They haven't been afraid to reinvent themselves either, they don't settle down in a comfort zone and they most certainly don't release the same album over and over. And still, their last album is unmistakingly symphonic metal, and it still has the essence of Nightwish written all over it. So you can do all what you applaud WT for by naturally evolving your style, and unluckily that's not how I feel WT went about it.

The song is growing on me as well, but it feels more electronic/dubstep than symphonic metal to me. Eluarelon's post was pretty much spot on. Trying to reconcile dubstep beats with symphonic metal is not an easy task...so whether you like it or not, ya gotta give them props for trying. That said, this is also just the one song from the album. No point in basing an entire opinion on a single...er, single.

Hated the album that followed. The concert was boring. Started like a generic lady gaga or whatever is popular song from the radio station.
