Schlager is definately THE showpiece of Austrian/European table-tennis. The technique, footwork, playstyle and especially his tactical decisions were mind-blowing!

Werner, einfach super.

Great match! It's amazing that such a dedicated defensive player like Joo Se Hyuk can have such an lethal forehand when he spends most of his matches chopping. His forehand attack is like a hurricane!

I believe this match truly illustrates how much of a truly spectacular player Schlager was. His shots were so well placed really making Joo struggle to return a ball with heavy back spin. Also his footwork showcased here is absolutely immaculate. The movement and freedom we possess while we're young...
@mjtsirhc11 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, probably the most interesting WTTC in history. All Chinese players eliminated before the finals, a low ranked chopper defeats the maestro Ma Lin, while Schlager takes out Kong in a seriously nail-biting seven set match and also defeats Wang Liqin after surviving three match points and taking the title. It would've been interesting if Joo had won this, though. I honestly believe he deserves to win some major title.

+Greger Karlsson Schlager inspired a whole table tennis generation by being the last non-chinese that won the WTTC, he kicked out the World champion and the Olympic champion in two legendary matches were he saved several match points, then beat the greatest defender in the history of table tennis who kicked out himself the World Cup champion, he had an outstanding tactical playing style, was one of the world's best servers at this time, and all that at age 31, so yes, Schlager is a legend, sorry if you don't agree

One of the best WTTC's , it was a real hero win for shlager ( in 1/4 he was loosing to wang liqin 3-0 and 10-7 , but won 4-3 , and in 1/2 was the same picture , 3-3 and 8-10 against kong linghui)
Werner Schlager tebrik ederim zirvede olduğu yıllardı, yarı finalde dünyanın en iyisi wang ligin yenip finaldede o yıl en iyi olduğunu kanıtladı.

I would not want to say that Joo Se-Hyuk has better physics than Zhang Jike or any other top offensive player, but in fact you need a very special psychological profile to be a world class defender. IMHO that's a much higher obstacle than physics. It's not easy to stay confident under permanent bombardment. ;)
@NoSpeechForTheDumb12 жыл бұрын
This may also come from the fact that "Shlaggy" is nearly 10 years older than Joo. It can be doubted that Joo will still be world class in 2020.

I love how the audience puts itself on the side of Schlager just because it's "Euro vs Asia". On the other hand I recently saw a match between Hennebont and Niederösterreich, where the crowd cheered for Ryu Seung Min and booed the hell at Schlager, just because he's not french. Isn't it paradox? I ask myself if they know that there was no korean world champion in men's table tennis history...

where are all the chinese? how could the european get in the final on WTTC??????
@thecatmeows16257 жыл бұрын
Иванов Иван He did so because: 1. a young and inexperienced Ma Lin lost against Joo, a surprising result but something you could have seen coming. 2. Wang Liqin was also quite young at that time, even though he did have some experience. Wang lost his composure in the quarterfinal against Schlager (he lost several match points) and I believe he was in pain (some sort of injury from what I heard). 3. Liu Guoliang had retired after the ITTF banned his short pips. 4. Kong Linghui was at the end of his prime. While he was not old, he was far from his 2000 form, when he won the Olympics. The game was still amazing though, 7 unbelievable sets.
