Today was 2023 world championship finals and it is pale in comparison to 2003 finals. What a playersm What a crowd, What an ambiance and what a match and that camera angle too - spectacular!

The level didtn go down for sure but rather up, the techniques are getting more and more optimized.
@religdeb Жыл бұрын
I was thinking this too. More Diversity of nationalities at the very top of the game, different styles of play making the matches more interesting (a chopper in the world championship final?). The level of play may be better now but that doesn't make it more entertaining at all.
@listrahtes11 ай бұрын
@@XIplupIX Optimized but sadly also simpllified by changes in ball size , ball material, Its a much less diverse sport now by design. No defense specialists anymore, next to no penholder as they took out their biggest weapons. There are very few players left who have a great touch. Most are just hammering the ball like in female tennis. They did that to make success more able to plan for especially because of chinas big influence but it damaged the sport a lot. When the last players of previous era like Boll (who ha this magical touch) have left the tour it will be much more boring in general
@XIplupIX11 ай бұрын
there are ltos of defense specialist, just not in top 100. I think you should go to acutal tournaments buddy and look at how they play htere. and not just judge by a few pros even in top 100 you got people like anders lind and etc who still play spin to a high degree.@@listrahtes

Schlager had a very difficult path to the finals too! On his way to there he beat Wang Liqin, the defending world champ and Kong Linghui, the reigning Olympic champ, both in some nail-bitingly close matches.

Schlager was very prepared for this match, as he had Chen Weixing to train with, and Joo played outstanding too, but he got in huge disadvantage because he missed like 70% of the shots that could make Schlager defend the ball instead of attacking it. He really lost like 9 points because of that, maybe because of the pressure and the nerves due to being in the final, as with Ma Lin, he barely missed those shots

Этот матч стал для игры защитного стиля и пиком и одновременно точкой невозврата, уже 21 год прошёл, а игрок защитного стиля так и не приблизился к этому достижению ( выхода в финал ЧМ с 61 рейтингом в мире на момент турнира).
