The recording on this tape was actually started here to tape the news, but cut off a bit before the end. This may be the first vintage newscast on KZbin at 60fps, if I'm wrong please tell me what is!

@@cfoster81 Incorrect. As Rollo was right in stating that Roker was born in raised in the NYC area. And went to college at a small college in Upstate New York near the Canadian border. FYI Roker also has had some famous family relatives being of Afro-Caribbean American . That includes Rock/Pop Star Lenny Kravitz and his late Mom who played "Helen" on the hit comedy series the "Jeffersons."

I knew Al worked in Cleveland for a bit as well. However did not know he also worked in DC as well. Wow he was a then 'kid" probably in his first major TV weather casting job.

The lower frame rate was my biggest problem with online video. Glad it's possible to do video properly now, but it's still far too rare overall. Commercial services that have videotaped sitcoms still can't get those right, nor anyone who's been putting recent news clips online!

I've noticed some of my videos and others will play at the right frame rate through my LG TV's KZbin app while others do not. The Roku app, which looks about the same, does play everything right. Wish I knew what encoding I had to use for it to work everywhere, or that they'd update the other apps.

When Al Roker was in D.C., that's when he first met Willard Scott. When Al was on this station, Willard was on WRC Ch 4. Also on the NBC station in Washington at the same time was Al's future WNBC anchor Sue Simmons.

1978 was also the year Suffolk Marketing, responsible for the success of Slim Whitman and Boxcar Willie, released 50 Songs You'll Always Love, a compilation of old-time standards performed by "The Fabulous Fingers of" Irving Fields at the piano. I hope you have the 50 Songs ad somewhere in your archives. Keep up the good work!

IKAROS 420, before deregulation of broadcast television every station had to demonstrate it was operating in the community service. Its news was part of that service. In the 1980s those requirements were dropped, television "infomercials" became common and ratings and market share was the only thing of value for a station. Public service became irrelevant. Today the old system would be called "socialism."

WTTG is still using 8mm film at this point. Like many other stations they didn't go full video until 1979 as the tech became widespread.
