This is what it's like to be part of Gen X. You're doing some work at the office, reviewing some schedules, and then the mind drifts off to "la la la la la la la la la la la la la Villa Alegre!", you remember a ferris wheel, and think "WTF?". No one around you is old enough to remember this show so you Google, "villa alegre ferris wheel song" and get all jazzed because someone posted it on KZbin.

Who cares? Not only is this timeless, it's also WAY better than Dora the Explorer (even if I am 43, I could care less about the latter; if I had kids, it'd be a different story). Plus the cast really belts it with gusto singing the theme song :-)

So very true. That's exactly how I found my way here. Trying to remember what this TV show was had been driving me crazy for years. The music and the ferris wheel at night during the end credits was the only part I remembered with clarity; I couldn't even remember the name of the show. Watching this now, seeing the opening, the animated bits drawn in Mesoamerican styles...now it's all coming back.

I searched for it years ago, before KZbin, by searching the archive of my local PBS station, and by writing to several other PBS stations in the 5 state gulf states region. Seems it wasn't important enough to them to store copies for themselves, or else what few shows they taped were lost Back in the 70s Villa Alegre came on early weekday mornings, right before Sesame Street, on PBS' KERA 13 in Dallas. Vegetable Soup and Big Blue Marble were two other kids' favorites of the time. I never thought I'd see it again. Thank you so much !

At some point, there was a fire that destroyed the warehouse where the taped shows were being stored. I have not been able to find any episodes anywhere. I am hoping that someone will find some episodes on vhs that they recorded, and upload them. Not sure if any of this show still exists anywhere, exept in our memories. Loved it as a kid. Well, if you look at PBS & public education as functions of the government, Id say the reason is that at one time there was a much stronger culture that cared about providing a good education. Here's the proof: _The Electric Company, Villa Alegre, Big Blue Marble, Vegetable Soup,_ & from CPT, _Trade Offs._ Actually I never thought I'd see Ontario's _Trade Offs_ again, but KZbin has a handful of episodes If you ask me, it is GenX & early Millennials who are the last to experience a rich public education, before the schools became dumbed down & eventually the political instrument of american so*ialism. A parent's only hope of keeping their child from becoming indo*trinated now is home schooling. Not even Na*i Germany dumbed its children down so bad

If only the intro/outro Aztec animations still existed. My favorite animation was Energy. It started with an image represting the sun then morphed into two stars. A silhouette girl walked across the white backround when a cornfield was appearing and the background became yellow. The Aztec silhouette girl swung on a rope. The background noised were chilling but fascinating. The animation in this clip was cut short. I remember the background became blue and showed two men and a polar bear that would climb steps (chilling background music). This animation would show the earth which would morph back to the image we first see in this animation.

Going through the IMDb, I ran across some posts from a few surviving members of the show. One being from Kenia Hernandez Cueto, the older kid in the clip. According to her, Rene Cardenas (creator and executive producer) owned the rights to Villa Alegre. Since his passing, the series has stayed in a vault and the family hasn't touched it ever since. So it seems we won't see a DVD release, TV re-airing, or stream unless someone can persuade the Cardenas family to open the vault.

Akita 625-Love your Avatar!! I remember seeing that guy on Sesame Street doing a counting number to some really neat music!! This was almost fifty years ago!! But he had the coolest most peaceful voice and the coolest moog playing in the background!!

There were two episodes I loved. One about safety and one about the human body. A song from that episode goes "I'm the heart. I'm a very important muscle. Pumping blood just to keep you alive."
