This popped up on my queue and I had every intention of skipping away to another video. 2hrs later, I'm here saying "man, I got to make it back to Chicago!" As a native New Yorker, my answer to the love of trains question is love, hate it or indifferent, there is an unspoken and inspiring investment to one's ability to be able to move about freely that comes with riding the train. Getting from one neighborhood to the next with relative ease and limitless connection and possibility is awe inspiring and reassuringly human. Thank you for this work. I’ve been on every single train line in Chicago, and I absolutely love riding them. Certainly has its crazy/frustrating moments, but riding the L helps take my mind off things, relax, and explore new places. As someone who rides the L to work every day, yeah, it kinda sucks because the trains are very loud and incredibly dirty. They're full of crackheads and bums, people get robbed on the L constantly, the trains are late more often than they're on time, and the CTA employees are rude and don't care about anything. They'll let people smoke cigarettes or marijuana on the train car, they let homeless people spit on the floor or pass out drunk on the seats. But at the same time, I can't help but kind of love the L too. I especially appreciate the way it goes around the Loop. There is something captivating about it.

as a kid growing up in chicago the CTA was a way of life to get around for even those who had cars. I remember catching the L on 43rd street to go to comiskey park, wrigley field, lincoln park etc or get off on englewood to shop 63rd st. A or B line. the B line took you further east to Stoney Island and the A line took you to 63rd and Ashland when we moved further east. The best thing about the L was they were 95% on time. When I took my wife who was born/raised in Los Angeles she loved riding the L. I miss chicago.

A shame that the Els in New York weren't appreciated like this and demolished instead. Yes, we have the Dual Contract Els in the outer boroughs but it's not the same as seeing Manhattan from a moving train or as seeing an amazing working relic of the nineteenth century still functioning from the street below. My ambition is therefore to try and rebuild the old New York Els.

Kinda doubt that it is Wright. He would have been in his 50's when the temple was being built and the person pointed out appears younger, The hat is not the typical Wright chapeau, Wright was in Japan during the initial design of the Temple and lastly, the Temple was designed by Louis Bourgeois, a Canadian. Might you be thinking of Unity Temple in Oak Park?

In the early 1960's, my God-father and 2 friends rode the 'L' for 24 hrs., on ONE fare. Pretending to be foreign students, they transversed most of the lines, acting bewildered when they reached the end of each. The Herald American newspaper wrote a story about their adventure.

I live outside Detroit so its nice to see other big diverse cities and how they looked back in the day til now...Detroit looks just like it ..but sadly Detroit had alot of crooks in politics that stole from the homeowners and business owners. Slipping money into big shots hands that could make decisions for the city..Kwame Kirkpatrick started out so good for the city but lost his way with big money and his identity .he dressed in the best clothes and shoes , lived fine in the mansion , had the best of the best everything --- something that no other Detroiter could afford ..some were homeless and nothing was done for them either but added to that population..sad that he used his job to gain financially. He hurt the city horribly.. never recovered. They try but its still failing ..burned up shuttered homes and businesses. It cant seem to hold its population and many are hurting terribly. They need to vote in people who will the city fair and bring it back to its glory days. I pray for the people who have to live there , its like the Wild Wild West days there ..wish someone would love the city enough to get it back .thanks for the Chicago video ..havent been there. Sadly seeing Detroit so rough and hearing about the damage and destruction makes me not want to visit another big city

You look at Chicago and you look at it's problems and, let's be honest, it's "south" and "west" side urban youths that are "the problem." What would cure the problem? We've watched faith leaders and community organizers and teachers union presidents all take hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in pursuit of the elusive answer..... I think if more urban youths knew how special Chicago is/was and how that automatically makes THEM special, they may develop a better sense of community pride. I don't think they know the slightest history of their city.
