Aw. I see my mom attended this hilugwila ceremony. She's sitting on her walker on the other side of the big house. I could watch and listen to this dance and song all day.

Chi Megwech! So powerful & beautiful! Makes me weep for the sorrow of lost traditions of my Potawatomie people but also with gratitude for the blessing of living & serving in this Pacific Northwest land & all the welcome & teachings I've received from the Nations. Aho!

@@clydebrown2727 I hear you. Really, I do. As time moves forward we evolve as does culture and reasons for why we do and don't do things. It's no different than how our cultural practices have evolved since time immemorial. Having said that, it's more important than ever in these times that we share what is sacred to us with non Kwakwaka'wakw citizens. They need to know what was almost fully taken from our ancestors and elders but was never forgotten. In doing so, we must educate non Kwakwaka'wakw people how valuable and sacred our ceremonial songs and dances are. They must know that we are in no way giving them away or sharing for exploitation. In that respect, it's up to us to educate. ~
