Yeah this Death Battle was actually extremely faithful to both shows. It’s starts as stupidly as possible with intergalatic road rage surging off into absurdity not unlike Rick and Morty. Then as so often throughout Doctor Who, the Doctor quips his way through getting his opponents to take himself out. True Rick could have shot him while he was regenerating but that implies Rick knows that shooting the glowing guy will kill him rather the safer assumption of causing an explosion as glowing things typically do.

Also rick could have blasted him in the head before he could even start Regenerating but it was at that point the Doctor started glowing and Rick took the cautious approach. By the time Rick took the dna gun thing out it was too late for something like that to kill the Doctor.

The Doctor actually first Winner that didn't really show any Violent act during the fight. He win againt Rick by outsmarting him, which fit for Doc Pacifist Nature.

So technically speaking due to having some awareness of being a fictional character, he was able to break one of the rules of Death Battle: pacifist traits are removed. Like how Aang killed Edward in their Death Battle despite the fact in his own series he doesn't resort to killing anybody. Zhao's death was more of the act of Moon Spirit than Aang's. So in that sense, the Doctor is also the fourth character in Death Battle to break the rules. First ones being Deadpool and Pinkie Pie for refusing to finish the fight and then came Discord who broke the first rule not to have prior knowledge of the opponent. Because Discord knew right off the bat that he won't be able to win so instead he focused on tricking Bill out from Equestria.

Even without his highest end gear, The Doctor still took the win. It makes sense, I mean, for The Doctor, Rick is a Tuesday. But man, so many details in the fight I love. Like how The Doctor smiles when he sees the screaming sun, ready for an adventure to find out what is happening. The only time he looks scared being the sudden appearance of the Weeping Angels, showing the entire time he was in control. How he never actually attacks Rick, he only defends himself and sets traps for Rick to fall in. Even the finishing blow was a culmination of this. Sure, The Doctor set up the trap. Activating the portal, destroying the TARDIS to block Rick's escape, funnelling him towards the demat gun... but in the end, it was Rick's portal on his back and the shot Rick fired that killed Rick. "Rule number one of The Doctor: use your enemy's weapons against them." Some not well versed with Doctor Who might ask how that would even work, but The Doctor can do bootstrap paradoxes without issue. This battle wasn't a complete stomp. Rick *could* theoretically kill The Doctor. But The Doctor is so experienced that the chances of that happening are miniscule. As they said in the conclusion, Rick would need a sneak attack. And even then, The Doctor has dealt with things like that before, and with the unmentioned luck/fate manipulation, it's debatable on whether even that would work. I was really hoping they would talk about how Doctor Who cosmology includes other series like Marvel, Transformers and Pokémon, but I get it, they don't want to give the victor away so obviously, especially because The Doctor wouldn't use the weapons that relate to that against someone like Rick.

something i realized after is that while both could travel dimensions or time, each specialized in one. rick's dimension hopping gave him some experience and clones for backup, but could ultimately be countered (like rick prime's was), and was limited by his mixed relationships with other ricks. by his own admission, he doesn't have the head for tiem travel and prefers to avoid it. the doctor's time travel couldn't really be hard countered by anything rick has, as he could easily leave himself clues, prepare retroactively or even call his past and future self for assistance. which means he could undo a victory by rick a LOT easier than rick could turn one of the doctor's around. and while dimension hopping is unusual for them and CAN cause the tardis distress, it's managed fine enough and the doctor has ways around that problem.

As I helped put in the blog, this was truly an epic death battle. It was just fun and entertaining to watch, despite my nick picks on the episode. The animation, song, and vocal performances was worth the fight and probably my second favorite fight of the season. As for next time... I Knew it was gonna be superhero related, but at least the memes will finally be over. Great reaction overall, and glad to finally watch this fight. Personal Question: What is your favorite G1 blog? But then and I shit you not: during regeneration the Doctor accidentally went all the way back in time to the creation of the first ever Dalek and the Tardis crashed into it destorying the arm. So he decided to “fix it” by replacing it with a plunger before the creator returned. When he saw the new design he said and I quote: I like it And that’s why they have plunger limbs, true story

Did you not watch the episode where they first introduced operation phoenix? In that episode Rick died and the ghost Rick haunted morty to help him bring him back to life throughout. I can only think of three reasons for them to do the next time, they found a limit on Superman, Goku recently got a hack of some kind, or simply they think they can do it better this time. I am seeing talk of using specific Goku and Superman, so maybe the one of the first two is possible. I just think they want to make what they believe is one of their cornerstone matchup to be more of a spectacle. Given the quality of this season though, it will probably be pretty good and a spectacular fight. It does feel like beating a dead horse though.

While that’s one of the reasons they’re doing a third match up for those two, the main reason is that they just didn’t like how they did Goku vs Superman the first two times (mostly the 2nd). Like it’s one of their most personally disliked pair of episodes across DB history (probably doesn’t help that the Dragon Ball fandom seriously cannot let go of their favourite Sayian getting beaten twice by the same Kryptonian “Boy Scout”). They’ve likely tried doing proper research this time, especially with Dragon Ball Super and everything afterwards coming out since the previous time & most previous versions of the main DC Comics Universe (Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis, New 52, Rebirth, etc) all being merged together as a singular timeline thx to a recent major event they did.

Unless they aren't using a comic Superman, I don't know what they are thinking. We already know where they put Ultra Ego Vegeta, Goku Black, Black Freiza, and Trunks, and the fusions. Even if they are using Xenoverse, I don't see why this is needed. They put Vegeta blew Thor, Modern Day Thor, and Superman are pretty close, not to mention Modern Day Superman has mentioned he is superior to all his past versions, meaning people can no longer complain about comic composite Superman anymore. Here we go again with Goku vs superman, 3rd time the charm, the Vegeta vs Thor fight was close, but Thor had more power and mjnoir, with Goku vs superman, Goku has range attacks, ki ability's, transformations and good stats and feats, while superman has absurd strength, speed, iq, and feats, but he lats any range attacks beside his heat vison.

Very solid episode. I was pretty satisfied with both how Rick and the Doctor were portrayed in their fight. Rick being the aggressor & the Doctor being far more whimsical and indirect when it came to defending himself. The Doctor mostly used non-violent ways to combat Rick & Rick ultimately doing himself in due to his arrogance & being outwitted is so fitting. The easter eggs and nods to other fights of this season as well as pulling some fun locals from both series really brought some fun and wacky charm to this fight. The track also has that excellent Sci-Fi feel. Now, to address the elephant in the room, I am not excited for Next time. Goku vs Superman was controversial 10 years ago, and to this day, there's groups of people who continue to clamor that Deathbattle is very bias & Goku vs Superman is one of the forefathers of that mindset. Yes, both characters have changed quite a bit since they first crossed paths in Deathbattle, but I completely agree that this fight takes up a slot that could've gone to a far more interesting episode where there could've been a fresh debate or something new to discover from another matchup. While I don't doubt that Goku v Superman 3 will be quite a spectacle, I'm not excited for an episode like this. No matter who wins, we'll either get "Deathbattle is pandering to the Dragonball fans", or "Deathbattle is wrong" because Superman won for a third time. If Superman wins again, people should just let this matchup go instead of trying to ink out the one scenario where Goku could beat a specific version of Superman. But that's just my thoughts on it.

My thoughts on the next time… Honestly, I just hope they bring something new to the table, and there most likely will be, plus the last time they touched on Goku VS Superman was back in 2015, and I’d say these guys have gotten WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better at analysis now than they were back then And if it makes for an epic fight then I’m down for it, plus in a weird way, this is kind of nostalgic, I was remember watching the first Goku VS Superman for the first time, I remember going into it being like “alright, let’s see what all the hype is about” because I wasn’t into Dragon Ball or DC back then, but then I came out of it like “🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯” And this specific part from the second one always made me laugh Boomstick: “oh-hoho, you want impossible? How about the time he lifted Spectre off the ground? A guy literally made up of eternity! No not insane enough for you? Well then, how about the time Superman lifted a book of infinite pages? That’s right, Superman lifted both eternity and infinity!” Wiz: “Though he did have some help from Wonder Woman and Shazam.” Boomstick: “Hey Wiz, what’s half of infinity? According to Ben on twitter, they're doing _exactly_ that. They're using Infinite Frontiers Superman, which combines all the mainline supermen from Pre-Crisis to New-52, as well as Super Dragonball Heroes, so we can _probably_ assume Xeno Goku is going to be involved. It's kind of the treatment I want if Mario vs. Sonic ever gets a third round, with both getting composites from things like Paper Mario and the Archie Comics (like a sort of more in-depth version of the very first fight).

I mean, thing you said about the Rematches being done cuz the outcome changed sounds really boring & predictable. It would amount to "Oh they are doing it this one again? So the other guy wins now. The End." With DB being DB, I doubt that. Even Goku vs. Superman 2 & Boba vs Samus remastered, hid the fact that the outcome remained the same until after episodeswent up, and that they never intended to change it at any point doing production. Biggest flaw is that Rick didn't know everything about the Dr. from interdimensional cable, he would have had a shield to bounce the annihilation ray back onto the Dr. or to power some device of his, whatever the dr. was going to use, Rick would have made a defense for it because he knew all about the Dr., he even says in one episode "I'm Dr. Whoing this shit"
