Beautiful form! Despite being Japanese, I’ve always loved the Chinese Art forms. Much more elegant. 🙏

In China, people say "the sword of Wudang and the stick of Shaolin". The taoist monks of the Wudang mountains are believed to have cultivated the best sword in China.

I'd like it too if I wasn't more pragmatically inclined. This is aesthetically pleasing yes, but it doesn't seem as practical as historical European or Japanese sword techniques. Just as engravings confer no tactical advantage unto a firearm, theatric flourishes are but a detriment in real combat. You won't look cool spinning around that Talwar if you do so only to get shot so nonchalantly by Indiana Jones. Boring, but practical is the way to go.

They are beautiful, though the practicality is questionable. In my experience, the more aesthetically pleasing a form is, the less practical it is. Don't get me wrong; I love Chinese martial arts and practice them myself, and they definitely are practical, but there is also a lot of fluff out there. Now when it comes to swords, I personally think the Japanese Katana is the greatest sword design ever conceived by man.

@@1mataleo1I mean this is a performance. Even the practical sword techniques that came out of the Yang Family "Tai Chi Sword" (which actually was created by Lin Jin Ling of Wudang Dan Pai who trained with Yang Cheng Fu and was also a friend of his), are only 13 basic techniques, to your point about keeping it simple. People like Scott Rodell have focused entirely on the simplicity of Jianfa and spar with it. And yet I've seen other Yang Stylists take that same form and wushu performance it up too. That said, if you're doing the practical things, and yet possess the athleticism to put on a performance for laymen (isn't that what KZbin and Wudang Mountain visitors are both full of anyway?) I see nothing wrong with spicing up that form... So long as when you actually teach it to others, the teaching is devoid of the fluff and the techniques can be very clearly explained and demonstrated in their various applications and scenarios for each. If after that, you can distinguish between, "now...if you're performing for others and not practicing, here give them more of a jump here or an extra spin here. They like that stuff" then yeah sure fine. You either know the techniques and can do and train jianfa or you don't and it's just wushu performance imo. Unfortunately just seeing someone do a flashy form, doesn't absolutely discredit what they might know from my experience.

Hermosa armonía. Es bonito ver cómo el Qi se trasmite desde el Dantian y llega a la hoja de la espada manifestándose en su punta. Una brizna de hierba puede cortar con el ángulo y el Qi adecuado. 🙏☯️

Thank you for the slow motion depiction of this martial art form you displayed beautiful control, lightness and balance I was mesmerised. I am inspired to learn more not to try and emulate, I am an Australian elderly female, but to learn some basic moves to be able to move with more grace and elegance.

I watched this video before. He (unfortunately I don't know his name) played it better. But his form is about 1/5 shorter than the one here, which I actually prefer. I have a question: Is there any information to associate particular parts of this sword form with each of the 8 immortals?

Question: How long is your blade and how lengthy should it be? Is it correlated with the height of the user?

Can you really use these swords in a real-world street fight without being bend out of shape if it hits something really hard? It seems very soft and flexible.

@@TurfSurf ... 🙏 Have you ever used a wet handkerchief as whip when playing with friends at the teenage school? - I have done that. It was fun, but harmful to the target. - Thin sword is the similar case; but we need the accurate study with the very right man. - Chinese arts are about philosophy which sounds idealistic and is very rare to achieve the right attainment. - If we learn for our mind, we have a chance to reach the goal. - Learning it to create our fame or for any monetary purpose will limit our mental capability of reaching or get rid of the attainment. 🙏 ***It sounds ridiculous, but you can try, as you still have chance to learn.*** 🙏 P.S. It is so true that sword cannot be brought with you in the real world, but everything can be a sword, if you know the force line of drawing sword and be skillful in adjusting it. 🙏

@@sammyli9456 while I get your intent and sure all of that philosophy can be beneficial for self improvement, there's a much simpler answer here for the floppy swords: They were intended to be training and performance tools not combat weapons. With the flexible (floppy) swords, one can practice tangibly sending Jin energy to the tip. You know you did it right when you get that nice snapping, whip cracking, sound.

fast and flashy... and very sloppy. You are missing all the essential elements of the jian, and just swinging it around like a stick. Slow down, feel the movements, refine the details. Its a journey and it begins with slowing down and finding awareness!
