Awesome!!!!!!! Not common to see the usage of the horsehair whisk...gorgeously presented...although, I can imagine the pain if my mom used that to wake me up in the morning...huhuhu...😁would love to learn this form and also using fan...does Wudang use fan as weapon?

Thank you! We do have a form here but I believe it was originally from elsewhere in China. The whisk is more special and central to Daoism. :)

badass Jake! I want to learn this form! What is the history of developing and utilizing the horsehair whisk? What does it offer that is different than the fan, sword, or any other weapon? I really like delving into the purpose behind developing a certain form. For instance, I can see how the fluidity would be able to dance around a more solid long weapon like the staff. Is there an advantage for a certain body type, age, or energy level to select this weapon? What type of person would general choose to work with the whisk?

The horsehair whisk is a special Daoist weapon and ritual item. It is used in a lot of Daoist ceremony and is a symbol for cleansing bad spirits away on your journey. Some of the immortals and legendary characters from Daoist lore are often depicted with a fuchen in hand. It is a unique weapon in that it can mimic movements from broadsword and straight sword as well as grab, whip, and snap because it is "soft." Students who generally study this form think of it as a soft form. IMO it is very difficult because of the stamina from swinging the chest open throughout the form. You won't catch any bad energies but sometimes you are lucky to even catch your breath! ;)

@@WudangWay awesome! and whoa, I can totally feel how it would be like the broadsword movements. It so versatile! Maybe one has to really be a Daoist immortal to fully master all that versatility! Its gorgeous! Is it considered a high-level weapon? I've seen it a lot in the Cdramas with the Doaist immortals holding this fuchen, but this is the first time ive really seen it in use and it was such a pleasure!! I can also see how it would clean the energies as it is very much like the Aztec rattles and the native american sage sticks: it permeates and shifts the energies all around, and, as Kostaaa8 says: "feel the force" ! Thanks for the info, super excited!

Is this whisk actually considered a weapon, or is its role more symbolic? It seems like a staff would be more dangerous (not to mention being useful for walking). Is this a case of the whisk being used to appear less threatening as the bearer was out and about in the world?
@WudangWay3 жыл бұрын
It is more symbolic historically. The fuchen is used in rituals, ceremony, and alongside main characters in stories. The whisk is a spiritual protection device. Much like a peach wood sword which can slay demons and bad spirits, the whisk affects another realm and sweeps away bad mojo.
