They did this song as the last of the encore songs when they played at the St. Augustine Ampitheater back on July 22. Just like in this version, Jason and the 400 Unit totally kicked ass on this song--I have seen different iterations of the ABB do this song dating back to the late 1970s, and along with In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, and a few other cuts from Live at Filmore East---an album I think is one of the best ever recorded albums in rock history, Jason and the band are doing an incredible job in recreating the feeling that listening to the ABB do it has given me since I was a kid. The show in St. Augustine was a great show from the moment it started to the end of this song---that was my third time seeing him do a show going back to when he toured on the release of Southeastern. He sure is on top of his game and even more important, clearly on top of his life with sobriety, finding the love of a great partner and now being a daddy---we should all be so fortunate to find all the things Jason so deservedly has found now: stability, peace, the love of a great woman, doing good work and getting deserved satisfaction from it. I think I can make a prediction that should come to pass---we have yet to see the best of Jason Isbell's work coming in the future...
