i'm an art creator, and i'll say that making an effect level is hard as well those two styles just do not use the same techniques and blocks at all, they're almost completely opposed. but that's nice to see you having a take on it, you're doing good also you said that the level looks flat, but that's probably because the parallax is wrong

The first part of the level feels flat because the block deco is behind all of the layers of the lava. if you sandwich the deco in between some of the layers of the ground lava it will feel more immersive

You should make the background less opacity lavafalls move slower (the lava falling slower), so that it actually gives the appearance of them being further away. Now they just look foggy

Something i can suggest you as a beginner art creator is make A LOT of variations expecially in blocks like rocks

When you use a move trigger to recreate the parallax of an object in perspective, multiplying for 0 an object makes it part of the player plane, multiplying it for a negative number makes it technically a foreground, which i dont think is correct for the lava effect, an object that multiplies the camera position by one is a background that is very far away, as the number gets closer to 0 it gets closer to the player plane. A negative number makes it be a foreground instead of a background.
