I think the biggest secret to their success is the fun these people have from the owners to the last employee despite the mountain of repetitive work to just maintain to keep all functional. The builders and technicians are encouraged to pursue their own ideas if posible with little scenes and moving gadgets - a paradise for creative people.

Consider that this video is nearly 8 years old, as Italy was opened in 2016. Shortly after the main italian section, they added a small corner for Venice. No trains, just houses and canals and still 1 million Euro construction cost, as every building needed to be handcrafted. The control centre has been heavily modernized, and sports 3 MASSIVE screens instead of the numerous small monitors. Southern France has been finished for nearly 2 years now, while Monaco with the racing F1 cars will open end of April. And of course, the bridge has been added, as well as Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana beach and Patagonia (they added a Metallica concert to Antarctica, when Metallica played in Hamburg and visited Wunderland). The Anden mountains and the Attacama desert are under contruction in Hamburg, while the rainforest and the Amazonas bassin are buing built in Argentina. And they have a Virtual Reality experience in the new building, where you can see the display from the eyes of a figurine.

Just wait until the Monaco part opens with its Formula 1 track, where the racing cars race completely independently using a computer program and the outcome is always uncertain. Gerrit has been working on the computer program and the technical conditions for many years. It is fascinating. In addition, new parts have now been opened such as Brazil. Miniature Wonderland never stands still.

The Germans' love for Italy is a well-known thing, a love reciprocated by us Italians, but here the genius is at the highest levels with the tribute to our beloved actors of Spaghetti Western, Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, with the reconstruction of "They Call Me Trinity" ('Lo chiamavano Trinità' in Italian) at minute 08:12 and the image of Bud Spencer (Carlo Pedersoli) at minute 17:59. Simply incredible!!

now remember that the video is 8 years old. There is now a second building on the other side of the canal, connected with a bridge on which the landscape and tracks naturally continue. and they have a virtual reality attraction. You find yourself in an empty room with VR glasses and a backpack for the technology and see how you are shrunk to model size so that you can then wander through Wonderland. Or you register in as a team and are given tasks that you have to fight your way through as a team.

Guys, mindset, I say! When you think about it, this never ending project is a working paradise, since the employees get so much freedom to research, get things on a higher level of perfection, although failures always happen. Maybe the point is exactly that the founders are _not_ businessmen but enthusiastic technicians. This would not have happened if two guys wanted to earn money. Also, the employees do not seek to get rich but to do what they love to do. From time to time, we all should reflect on the work we do daily.

15:24 There is already a lot going on there. They expanded the Miniaturwunderland already to the other side of the canal and installed a bridge for visitors to get to the new sections of South America that were and are built in a cooperation with a model builder family from Argentina. And also Europe is still expanding. Soon they will open Monaco with a true Formula One racing track with little cars and a real race going on. 22:15 Actually they do elaborate testing for their moving parts so they can be sure they are running longer than normally specified. And sometimes they improve those moving parts with new technologies to make them long lasting. I.e. they are replacing all rails with a middle conductor to a DC-system, because the middle conductor gets worn down regularly from all the trains running over it. And perhaps the team is that large because of just the maintenance they have to do every single day to keep things running.

The text was implemented with Google users. You have to watch the whole thing live and I would recommend that you take two to three days just for the miniature wonderland to look at everything. You can stand in one place for five minutes and you can see maybe 5% of it all the details, it's absolutely crazy. As a German who's been able to see it twice, I think it's absolutely crazy. They've now built the bridge. There's already Rio and Monaco over there with Formula 1, every race different winners, one corner is with virtual reality where you have glasses and with a mini computer on your back you can walk around on a corner doing things and experiencing a little story that is absolutely crazy

Yes, a Rammstein concert would be great, with pyro and all. I think one needs at least one week (better two) to see every detail in there. It's fascinating. I wonder if there is a maximum of authorised visitors at the same time so that it doesn't become too crowded, that would be annoying if there were several rows of visitors everywhere who'd stand in the way of each other. This building where the Wunderland is inside is huge, there is room for several coutries more. I just looked up the entrance fees, and I see there are special offers where the hotel stay (+ breakfast) is included, plus VIP (no standing in line to get in) entrance, and a ticket worth € 31 that allows you to take all public transports (bus, tram, train, ferries) in Hamburg for 3 days for € 81 (so € 50 are for hotel stay and entrance fee, which is € 19 alone). These public transport tickets are great, here were I live, for € 8 something per day, I can travel through the entire Land (Bundesland) for 24 hours (usually, one bus ticket is about € 2,50).

Yes there is, that’s why they have the time slots you need to book in advance. Otherwise you might end up waiting several hours for a free slot.
@IroAppe
@IroAppe 2 ай бұрын
And that's why it's tricky sometimes to get (good) tickets. I don't know how it works, but apparently it works: You have a START time as a slot. So you can enter at that time period (from-to, be there in that hour!), and stay all the time until closure. I've been there myself, and for some reason, it doesn't get increasingly crowded over the day as you might expect. It's more like a theme park: At some times, there are more people, some times there are less over the course of the day. But - even when there are many people, it's never too crowded. They have a good limit. The busiest is the airport. So you might have to wait 2-3 minutes to get to the front where the planes start and land. But in that time you can enjoy the beauty of the rest of the airport, after all, the planes taxi all the way to the gates and park on the field, and there's always something going on.

I was there last year, they have a second building now, connected with a bridge. I hope you will have the chance to go there one day. It's impossible to grasp in a video. Work like this is only possible with a huge amount of passion. When you talk to the staff and the "owners" you can clearly see, that they are more like a family that share a strange passion for perfection.

Building that bridge wasn't as simple as it sounds. The Speicherstadt, the old warehouse district, was built on huge logs rammed into the river mud and silt, upon which both the streets and the buildings were created. The canals between the buildings were used to transport wares from the actual port section to the warehouse by barges. These were faster, cheaper, and more versatile. However, the Elbe river is tidally influenced by the 70km distant North Sea. With high tides on the North Sea, the river water rises by well over two meters, and runs off almost completely at low tide. This means that the constantly changing weight of water on the river mud causes the buildings on opposite sides of the canal to tilt towards and away from each other during high and low tides by over 30 cm (roughly one foot) on the top floors. But to retain their title of biggest model railway in the world ALL parts of the tracks have to reachable by ANY train set anywhere on the tracks by following the tracks without artificially lifting them onto other tracks. They are only allowed to use switches built into the tracks themselves. But model railway tracks aren't known to be able to contract and expand four times a day by over a foot when passing over the bridge. I still haven't heard a good explanation how they solved that problem. Another problem was that the Speicherstadt is part of Germany's UNESCO World heritage sites so their inherent structure can't be significantly changed. The bridge thus had to be approved for very strict adherence to classic building codes that didn't change the character of the two buildings. So quite a feat for a seemingly fairly simple straight connection between point A and B.😂

If you want a far newer video on the MiWuLa, check out James Bray's recent video from his visit to Hamburg. Yepp, he was blown away. He's an American currently stationed in South Korea but he has a very active German subscriber group. He visited Germany three times in 2023 with his most recent stay in Hamburg. Btw: there are quite a few much raunchier scenes to be found than those tame ones in the automated warehouse. But if you want to see the raunchiest ones that even the Wunderland creators thought were just a bit over the top, you'd have to book the behind the scenes tour. Where you are literally taken into crawlspaces behind and sometimes even under the scenery and shown the internal workings. It's fun but often a quite tight squeeze.

the guy with the moustache - Gaston - retired in 2021 and made a documentary with Gerrit about his time and work at the wonderland. Two little examples for you: he wanted some fishing nets in Italy, but every stuff he tried to be a net had too big holes, so all the fish slipped through. He then went to a famous sex shop in Hamburg, took the little fish with him and "tried out" some lingerie till he found some with the right size of net-holes. And the second example: the Brückenpisser - 2 men peeing from an bridge into the river underneath :D

They have buildt the bridge since, but on the other side they buildt South America. They worked with similarly crazy Model builders from Brazil and had everything buildt over there and shipped over in Containers, because they were convinced that only people from the country could build everything most realistically. And Frederik‘s brother Gerrit is currently finalizing his masterpiece: the Formula 1 racing track of Monaco. They invented the whole system on their own with the whole racetrack being made of printed circuit boards so that the can steer the cars like on a display. It‘s insane! Watch this latest update: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXaQYXSjmL6jnposi=-o-gXS_QDHZCP5xU I am not sure, if it has English subtitles, but maybe the pictures speak for themselves!

I got to go there in 2013. It's absolutely incredible to see in person. It's VERY crowded there though. I don't know if I went during peak hours, but it was absolutely packed on a weekday when I was there. You really have to push and shove if you want to see anything, but it's more than worth the hassle to see in person. One last note, as a model railroader, Miniature Wunderland needs to take better care of their trains. When I was there a lot of the locomotives and rolling stock were squeaking really bad. They don't lubricate or clean their trains enough. And YES, they need to put a RAMMSTEIN stage at that music festival! :D

I heard in an interview that they have limited the number of visitors since the beginning of Corona and not lifted it to the max since then. They said it is still quite crowded with about 80% of the maximum possible visitors. It's for the benefit of those who actually get a ticket. It also shows nicely that they aren't doing it to maximize their profit but the experience.

One of the many new sensations is the remodelling of the Hamburg section. The visitor lives in scale 1:1 when he enters the Speicherstadt, the home of Wunderland. In the building he can watch the same building in scale 1:87. Part of the roof is open, so he can watch what the model figurines in scale 1:87 watch: A third Speicherstadt in scale 1:??. The model in the model in reality brings the project to the edge of feasibility. Nice. see more here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4LGdqBpbsSIh7s the official channel with weekly updates is here: kzbin.info?search_query=miniatur+wunderland+hamburg

7:33 Some years ago a Group of Sheiks from Dubai gave them an offer: 100million$ to build a similar Model Train in Dubai. Thats a lot more you need to build such a Thing. And all three of the Bosses (yes, there are three Braun Brothers) said ... NO! If any Village in any Corner of the World has its own Wonderland it wont be the same anymore and much more important: It isnt unique anymore

Yes, there r three Braun-Brothers, but only the Twins and an old schoolfriend of them are the owner of the #MiWuLa!

54:35: I don't know if it's here, but at one antique model, they divided it in half: The left part, all the people are ancients romans, and on the right tourists with cameras. A split between anitique and modernity.

DJ bobo and _Helene Fischer have both donated in the past a lot money for Miniatur Wunderland, thats why they got their Concert Models there, as they are sponsors and in the Helene Fischer section people could donate money to get their own little figurine up there too. its not just about family friendlyness.

Only thing im scared of closing the project is the cost of cleaning. While manufacturing items stay at a linear cost, the cost of cleaning the place will be exponential...or logarythmic..or whatever math people call it. It will hit a crossroad then cleaning costs more than building. But then again..germany loves culture, and it will be saved and then ruined by the G-man

They managed to ensure you cannot see everything as long you do not have the minimum body height. So it is somehow save for Americans.

The problems with doing something like this in the USA would be ... - the MINDSET: workers change their jobs on a regular basis (as part of the culture of "getting ahead"), but that way you would have to "start at zero expertise" again with a new one - the RESPECT FOR "stuff": the USA is the place that "invented" modern[1] Graffiti ... and "children touching everything" It could be INSPIRATION for a bunch of children AND there would probably be enough multi-storey industrial buildings to accommodate it. [1] modern = spray can tags and graffiti ... "Kilroy was here" slogans have been left in buildings for thousands of years, but they are rare in comparison, because it was rather hard to do with a piece of coal or actually etching it in the stone with a piece of iron.

no Rammstein.... most people in Germany don't like them. It nothing for the main people... but they should make a Love Parade in a Miniature Berlin that would be cool!
