@@WunderTechTutorials Seconded. EVERY other video I've seen has been too beginner friendly. I'm a software engineer who sort of despises networking (hence, looking at UniFi for my home network redesign), but I also have even more VLANs than you, with somewhat complex inbound/outbound ACL rules. This video answered so many of my questions; general and specific, about the UniFi ecosystem. Cheers!

WOW!!! This is definitely the best basic unifi network guides that I have come across. I am coming back to unifi from tp-link omada (horrible setup). I was going to go with a pfsense/unifi setup, but decided ~hour ago to go all in with a unifi single-pane of glass setup. Thank you for the guide. I look forward to watching your other videos.

Just started using Unifi a few years ago because of it's ease of implementation and visibility into the network. The networks I setup are usually flat because I don't have a good understanding of more advanced networking concepts. This video helped a lot in understanding the basics. Keep drilling down into the different areas. I would like you to cover VPNs in one of your videos. Specifically, the differences between Teleport, Wireguard, OpenVPN and L2TP. I have used L2TP for years but it doesn't work in double NAT configs like Starlink. Just started using Teleport and so far, it works great! It would be good to know the different use cases where one type of VPN works better than the other. Thanks, Frank! I appreciate what you do.

Thanks for the video, my first Unifi devices arrived yesterday and right now I'm working on configure my network. Question regarding the Isolate Network toggle on the IoT network. Isn't checking this a problem in case your Sonos/AppleTV type of device is on this network and you want to cast from your laptop/smartphone that is on the main network? Or accessing your server (Home Assistant Green) that is managing the IoT infrastructure. Isn't it better to use a rule like you did for the surveillance network? Also for the VPN video something that I would like to see is a solution in case your ISP provides you with a dynamic IP, maybe using DDNS and how to configure that.

Just a remark: if you want to use the local DNS functionality on the router, you need to set it's IP address as primary DNS server. Also ad-blocking function relies on it. (however I do not know if DNS is in the general release)

Great video! One question: My modem does not allow bridge mode. What alternative is there to avoid double NAT? DMZ perhaps?

Great video! We transitioned our home/office network to Unifi so this just helped with the vlans and explaining other settings. 1 question is we have followed you for sometime and have a Plex server setup on a Synology Nas. How do we transition that to our Unifi setup? We have the UDM Pro Max, and would like to host plex here, or should we just attach the sysnology to the switch and call it a day? We will be adding in a Unifi Nas down the road but for now will utilizing the 2 drives on the UDM. Thanks for another great video!

Thanks! Right now, no real way to transfer that with Ubiquiti hardware/software, but I put out a video last week on how you can use a Mini PC for a bunch of software and that might be an option, or just throw the Synology on the network. My guess would be that Ubiquiti doesn't go down the "third party app" path so you'll need some sort of long-term solution to that, but I could be WAY off - just a guess.

Mostly a question of curiosity. Is there a reason you do not match the third octet of the IP assignments with the VLAN ID? It would seem useful when dealing with an IP address to implicitly know the associated VLAN. Love your videos Frank - top notch with a good blend of detail and brevity.

Thank you! In my current setup, that's how I have it done, but since I am using 10.2.1 and the management VLAN is set to VLAN ID 1, I just set them to a combination of the second and third, but I think what you're suggesting is the more "common" way of doing it.

Wow great video playlist !!! We intend to install five wireless access points that are connected via a Poe switch. Should each access point be configured separately? Can there be a set-up of a master and slave, so that one master will replicate all others, as in an Aruba Access Point?
@WunderTechTutorials
@WunderTechTutorials Ай бұрын
Thanks! I personally set them all up independent from an IP perspective, then configure the "Existing Device Configuration" on each AP after setting one up.

what is the difference of choosing isolated network in the network setup vs writing a firewall rule? I set my Unifi up years ago when isolated network check box wasn't an option, so I created firewall rules. is this just Unifis way of simplifying firewall rules to consumers?
@WunderTechTutorials

It basically automatically blocks other VLANs. I have a video coming out on Sunday that explains it all.

@@WunderTechTutorials awesome, ill keep an eye out for it. I just watched another video earlier with a guy who doesnt like the Isolated Network setting and still rather use the firewall rules. Something with how it creates the rule when that box is checked. Think he mentioned he didnt like the "Lan In" type instead of "LAN Local". Interested in your view in Sundays Video. Thanks for doing all this man. I been on Unifi for years and just did a set and forget setup. Now I am revisiting everything like you with what I learned over the years, so same situation over here..
