NES Friend showing everyone his WURM at Christmas like a drunk Uncle...

I remember staying up super late one Friday or Saturday night as a kid and playing all the way through this game in a single marathon session. By the time I finished, I was half-delirious from lack of sleep, and then I wondered years later if I'd just made the game up somehow. I mainly remember those long side-scrolling mazes on foot, kicking everybody to death to save ammo, and trying to figure out who to talk to over and over during the boss fights to bring my "possibility" up to 100%. I'll always fondly remember it, though. I mean, barely, too, but fondly. Fondly and barely. Like a really great one-night stand, which it was, I suppose.

Another 10,000 bonus points to NES Friend for covering a game I hadn't seen before even though I lived through the era and have been watching RetroGameTube pretty much since its inception.

This game would have blown my mind back in the day. So many different play styles and variations, plus a story. Sure, it looks basic my today's standards, but I would have loved this as a kid!!!

I don't care what anyone says, this game is rad. It and Lone Ranger were some of the most ambitious games on the system.

This game is basically that movie about restarting the Earth's core.

I've got to give them props for advertising 1 meg x 1 meg MMC3 as well as Vertical + Horizontal Scrolling. All us kids cared about in 1991 was the size of the program and character rom, the mapper being used, and if the game had scrolling in all directions.

A new NESfriend! A nice surprise before an eye appointment. I can see (pun intended) why some call this hidden jasper. Another great video, Trav!

While it’s awkward at (many) times, I actually like this game a lot, but didn’t have it as a kid. I found out about it back during the ScrewAttack Terrible Thursday days. Seeing them play through this thing was hilarious, because the “plot” is all sorts of crazy, and there is truly a shocking number of different gameplay types here for the time. 😁

3:48 - A circle can be plenty terrifying, if it shows up before the period on your bank statement! (Granted, it's more of an oval, but still.)

Oddly enough, the word "wurm" also means dragon. Perhaps while in development, the name was related to cut content involving such. By the way, I appreciate how thoughtfully put together your videos are. You have a decent channel, friend. Keep it up.

I’m pretty sure “depth defying” was an intentional play on words, as the title is “Journey to the center of the Earth”. Also “unlimited continue” is proper English. It is more common today for us to say “unlimited continues”, noting that there isn’t a set and specific number value for continues. However continuing is a game feature that not all games have and it can be set to various formats, such as credit/coin continue, game doesn’t feature a continue mechanic, unlimited continue, and limited continue. In this use of the term, it is not related to a numerical idea, but rather a game mechanic title.

As for wurm, that is a common spelling for dragon and serpent like creatures appearing in real world mythologies as well as fantasy games and novels. In the real world mythologies they tend to be creatures that live in underground lairs, which fits with the naming of the vehicle and game title.

If it's spelled like that, it might be the German word "Wurm", which still means "worm", but it's pronounced like "vuhrm". 🪱 I can't remember if I mentioned this before on one of your other videos, but just in case not: I appreciate how you render your videos in 4:3. I have a big fullscreen monitor, and with no pillarboxes, your videos look excellent on it. 📺
