Is there a function to the extended pommel? I have a Dutch 1813 No2 here, which has some similar features (the branches of the guard, the grip binding, and the blade profile are somewhat similar), but the pommel is much shorter. Since grip shape is pretty important for use, presumably there was a reason to elongate them.

Perhaps it served as counterbalance or Wurttemberg just copied the Dutch for pure esthetical reasons. I'll check about the 1813 to see why that one had this pommel.
