That is the same blade as the 1889 pipe back calvary sword.

Hello. I hope this isn't a bother, but I think I happened to run across the saber pictured in the book at 3:16 on page 522, or one much like it. It's the closest match I've been able to find thus far, albeit the blade on mine appears less broad. I just wanted to ask if you can tell me what book that is so that I might be able to research it better, as I've had no luck elsewhere thus far, and the piece is unmarked as far as I can tell.

I think its interesting that after so many centuries using a curved sword, the Ottomans end up adopting the European straight sword.

Excellent, very detailed and complete information, essential for a collector. I love this sabres, they are truly a piece of napoleonic wars History. I own both the year IX (Manufacture Nationale and LW - M marked) and the year XI (February 1813). Actually you can tell the difference beetween early and later ones because the year IX guard is less robust and the branches are slighty thinner. I also own the former year IV sabres and the Hussars were right, those are lighter and move better. But the Year XI is a beast. P.D. Nice couple of An XI heavy cavalry swords at the back 😉.

I envy you, been waiting for a good Year IX to show up in auctions but nothing so far!

Hi, just by the EUB marked on the guard you can identify it as a Brazilian sword (Estados Unidos do Brasil), probably one of the cavalry trooper models from 1890-1900s. That said, no need to duplicate comments on other pages please.

Yes, if some makers can make the British 1796 this one can be made; the real question is who would want to do a repro. I seem to recall some smiths in the Czech Republic and Poland offered reproduction of similar models.
