Hey people, most people never get in involved in a real fight situation and this kind of performance is not meant for that scenario. All of what we call martial arts these days are far removed from combat and are practiced as a sport/performance art or a lifestyle . Even sparring in most cases is sport fighting and heavily contained and controlled. Just enjoy the talent and skill for what it is, incredible control over of the mind and body as these brilliant young athletes have demonstrated.

For all wondering, the guy doing monkey is a class act. Kind, polite, respectful, dedicated, and he's a friggen badass to boot. I was in the classes when he first started training using this technique and the video was recorded shortly after he became excellent at it. The class had a few who did the Monkey incredibly well but J-man there just put his name on the list. I am proud to see how he progressed. Man, I miss that whole group of students. Some were bartenders, some were youngsters, some were just friends with the instructors, some were bouncers, and many were Hollywood stunt performers. The instructor (1 of 2, actually) was the guy in the Spiderman suit after he enters the wrestling ring in the first Spiderman movie as well as the computer animation model for a very famous Kung Fu movie. The second instructor did great stunts, too. You may remember his role as Abe Vigoda's stunt double in the Betty White/Abe Vigoda Snickers commercial. But I digress. Great people, great skills, and great friends. I'm jealous of them all. haha

I am no fighting expert, but just watching this I believe one can see noticeable differences. ignoring age difference, Monkey style looks to be more about fluent motion, and speed. more open and free if you will. The Dog Style seems powerful, most effective for going in to really hammer down on an opponent. you would have as much stamina as long, but it looks to make up for it in the strength of each blow. correct if I am incorrect please, again no expert.

Do you honestly believe that if those two guys were to fight someone using boxing or kickboxing or wrestling that they would win. Dog style was taught to women as a defense against rape and men didn't care about it much. My have times changed in martial arts history. I aspected to see more ground techniques with kicks up from the ground cos the history says they had spikes on the bottom of the shoes like football cleets and when the woman were attack and push to the ground they had many groan kicks , and leg vains and artery attacks. But i am just a fan of martial arts history and history is his story depending on who is telling it.

Dog as my avatar indicates is often cross-patterned to feline. The star is a shape not represented anywhere in nature, it means Luna or the moon. The dog star sirius is in fact associated with Lion and other cat like species. Dog in this case would be more like wolf, which has a "heart like a lion". Indicating nobility rather than feral. I think your statement about being tiger-like is close, a style named after a dog is only a bit more implausible than one named after a forbidden animal.
