There's an irony in the name. Sanda (散打)can be interpreted as "scattered hitting", but these fighters execute some of the most precise hits I've seen in any combat sports! They're far from "scattered". And they do it with both enough power to K.O. the opponent and enough stability that they never need to stagger, tussle or hop around. Kudos to whoever refined their training method ! :) (I know I know, the more appropriate interpretation of the name is "amorphous fighting".)

Theres plenty of styles that got some ironic names. For example: Judo meaning "gentle way" but ain't nothing gentle about getting thrown with an ippon seio nage to the concrete. Tai Chi Chuan is translated to as the supreme ultimate fist (correct me if I'm wrong) despite it nowadays being used more for excerise and lacking the combative nature it may have used to have

So many head kick KO's. Do many Sanda fighters think the head gear keeps them safe?
@maxk880
@maxk880 Жыл бұрын
Well there is less punching KOs because your head is protected for most competitions. The protector is good enough to block most non-face KOs, but a hard kick to the head won't get protected. Also it's close to MMA (throws, takedowns, wrestling allowed) so it's kind of unpredictable. Lots of things can come your way

@@yowunkekulawala2921 >Sanda is part of Wushu. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kickboxing ↓ Japanese kickboxing originated in the late 1950s, with competitions held since then.[8][9][10][11] American kickboxing originated in the 1970s and was brought to prominence in September 1974, when the Professional Karate Association (PKA) held the first World Championships. Historically, kickboxing can be considered a hybrid martial art formed from the combination of elements of various traditional styles. Kickboxing, which imitated Muay Thai, began in Japan and then in US. Kickboxing is a combat sport that bans some of the Muay Thai techniques, and sanda is just one of them.

Sanda was originally developed by the Chinese military (starting in the 1920s) as hand-to-hand combat training for their soldiers. So yeah, if a moves allows one to efficiently kill the enemy in battle, it's included. The sports version has been tweaked to make it safer and more audience-friendly, but ... I guess it's still a generally war-oriented fighting sport. Hence the pile-driver and stuff.
@高宇中

I think it’s illegal now. Read in the rulebook that you’re not allowed to intentionally slam someone on their head. You’re also not allowed to put any thing on the ground other than the soles of your feet, so there goes the chance for a backsweep or scissor takedown unless you have ridiculous speed and balance.

Obviously we are NOT talking about a sport, but about a massacre match, more fun for the public, the coaches, the organizers, (perhaps also for federation referees?), if we miss a wounded or a dead man. It is enough to observe the happiness of the athletes-massacres when the opponent ends up on the ground. In the face of any moral and / or sporting ethics. ...

The original meaning of martial arts such as Kung Fu and karate was mainly self defense and how to fight to death, in fact, there's a story of a master in Okinawa, a master trained a boy who killed a thief and left him blind because karate was an originally "dirty" style, mostly founded with eye jabs and fast punches.

They go down so easy. Never seen fighters go down this easy in other disciplines. Is this pro fights or just competitions ?

Juan Antonio yeah but never out cold like this. Maybe it’s because of the intensity in the style or the lack of distancing with a lower guard. I dunno

Or maybe it’s just because it’s not as high level as ufc or Bellator. I’ve only just discovered this discipline so I have no idea of the level of skill or prestige in these fights. Maybe they are pros but not world champions

I don't know sanda regulations but the judges counting when obvious KO guys unconsctious on the ground without any sign..and they count and after that calling for the medic. Like no concerne for the fighters health and quickly first aid and not just standing upon an uncounstious men and kepp counting..stupid and dangerous for the fighters health....or I'm too soft?
