@@Kragglover2003 Rocket Metal is technically a character, as well as the egg robot used in the same cutscene, and the UFO, and they all have moves assigned by default (kind of, it's complicated), but they're all very buggy. Rocket Metal in particular will clip himself out of bounds under certain circumstances. Problem is, fixing them means breaking the attract screen, potentially permanently.

the funny thing is, there _is_ a stand-only character in hftf, being perhaps unsurprisingly death 13 you just don't hear about it much since, like eggman, it's a story mode-only boss character

based on the context, i have to wonder if turning it off is common practice for offline tournaments ( such as they are ) played on ps3, and the core of the change is really just achieving parity between online play and the main competitive ruleset alternatively, it might be more of an experimental change than anything, since it lets the entire community test the removal and feel out of it's better, worse, or would perhaps be better implemented as a weakening of ketchup's effects rather than a wholesale removal

I'd love to see what they can do with Super Sonic. Maybe if very specific conditions are met in a match, Sonic can transform into Super Sonic - he loses health over time (like the traditional ring-drain mechanic) and maybe you can still chip away his health, but he doesn't have any hitstun for most attacks.
