Sonic 2 works thanks to Sonic 2 and Knuckles, but as soon as you get into the prototypes, aside fron the earliest ones which had S1's serial number and Beta 7 (Which had its serial number corrupted for some reason, giving you a new Blue Spheres stage) the Sonic 2 and Knuckles will try to apply itself but the first few different pointers will throw it off and cause it to get stuck in a boot loop. (Redhotsonic already made a video testing the S2 prototypes's compatibility with S&K. None of them worked, although the noise it made when resetting gradually slowed down as the prototypes advanced, probably due to more of the patch being able to be applied before the game would reset.) So no, forcing the S3 or S2 patch on the wrong game wouldn't work.

When I was a tiny lad, I had the amazing idea of trying to finish all of blue spheres. I managed to get around level 50 and then rage quitted xD

I toyed with the idea too lol but after doing the math (~2 minutes per stage), I found out that it'll take me a few hundred years to beat them all soooo nope 😂

@@kirotalksyt Each stage has a code. Find the codes and split up groups of levels into manageable chunks. Give different youtubers different sets of levels to beat and record. Upload the videos into an in order playlist. If you get enough people to work on it, them eventually, maybe in a single lifetime we could collectively beat every stage and leave a record for people to marvel at for generations to come. A playlist with hundreds of years worth of content. To fully document all that blue spears has to offer.

When I was a child, I always hated the blue sphere in Mega Collection, simply because I had no idea how to start the game. The title screen always catches my attention whenever I see it, and it really annoyed me because I didn't know how to start it, and I felt like the title screen was just taunting me because of it...

Well, SEGA does have the bragging rights of releasing the first ever commerical backwards compatible console. The Mark III (otherwise known as the Sega Master System outside of Japan) had backwards compatibility with Sega SG-1000 games. When it was brought over to the US though, they were marketed as budget titles. They were really ahead of their time back then.

You can also play all the blue sphere games by plugging in Sonic Classics. It’s a compilation of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Dr Robotnik Mean Bean Machine. The reason is because the game is actually bigger then 2 megabytes. But the compilation has each game individual rom. Sonic 2 is the first rom on the cartridge, and it takes up half of the total compilation rom. Sonic and Knuckles reads only the second half of the room when a rom size is too big. But the next rom file after Sonic 2 is Sonic 1. So it see the Sonic 1 rom header. Basically, it recognizes it as Sonic 1.

I once screwed up a science experiment using this game. Back when I was a kid, some of my classmates were trying to prove that video games stress people out. They tested resting pulse, and pulse after playing for a while in order to prove their thesis. I was the only one whose pulse was lower after playing a few levels than before. They had to retest me after my heart rate normalized to make sure they didn't mess up somewhere. Got to miss a bunch of class for this, it was great

Actually, the Levels aren't randomly generated. There is a set equation for the 4 chunks on the map. And there are 128 Quadrants numbered 0-127. In fact, The Top Right is the only slot to feature all 128 Quadrants. The Bottom Right only features up to 127 Quadrants (0-126). The Top Left only features up to 126 Quadrants (0-125), and Bottom Left only features up to 125 Quadrants (0-124). Here are the Equations: TR: (N-1)%128 BR: (3N-2)%127 TL: (5N-3)%126 BL: (7N-5)%125

Fun Fact: Blue Spheres are also present in the DS version of Sonic Colors. It's basically a more refined version of the special stages in Knuckles Chaotix. Unfortunately, it is also called Orbs in this version.

what an interesting video for such an obscure subject. I remember back in the days when found out about the game myself (just by the curiosity of locking games other than Sonic 2 or 3, and by accident pressing ABC together). When local game magazines published how to unlock this game just after 2 months I was like "nah..you are two months behind..." 😂 However, when these magazines finally published about it they also included tons of codes to reach levels much ahead of what I managed to reach. And I was like "Wow, it has over 1000 extra stages???". Old Gen hasn't enough colors for all these gems....(I had to make the joke about that 🤭. Don't be bothered, I think only in the PS3 era color pallets could cover all options). The magazines had codes for up to some 10k level and I was amazed by that for a good reason: not knowing shit about how clever programming and algorithms can scale things up, I was blown away that something clearly created as bonus material could last longer than the main games. Wonder how long people at the magazine played until give up (or if they just tried random numbers..). Of course, it raised curiosity regarding how many stages it had, but if someone presented this 134M number I'd laugh at his face.

I play Sonic Mania sometimes but the controller was acting up so I failed three special stages in a row and quit. 😂🤣🤣🤣😅🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Once I get over my sinus infection, I need to get into it. Sonic 1 was meant to be compatible with S&K and have Knuckles like Sonic 2, but was cut due to time constraints.

Every time blue spheres is involved that in it's own is bigger then everything else in the collection combined, also since origins has 2 blue spheres modes (OG & new) as far as i know origins is with just the 2 bleu spheres modes let alone in general technicly the biggest game in general of all time (not in terms of how much MB but as in how much there is to do there / how many stages there are)

Heh. It’s cool how that works, and with any genesis game (as long as it’s 2 Mb or lower).
