After publishing "The Vietnam Photo Book" to great acclaim, veteran Mark Jury enjoyed worldwide success as a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker. But he couldn't keep the demons of undiagnosed PTSD at bay forever. After decades of alcoholism, suicide attempts and madness, Mark finally takes steps toward long-term treatment and a way to move past his pain.

Thanks Mark for sharing. Most people who witness death or have been in any traumatic environment have some form of PTSD, but they don’t always know it or show it. I have a dark sense of humour that most people don’t understand. I encourage anyone who has been in any traumatic situation to talk to someone. It doesn’t always have to be a professional just someone who’s to willing to listen.

Thank you for sharing your story, Mark. I am a caregiver for my father, a Vietnam veteran, and your story helps me better understand the reason why he is the way he is today.

Dan, I looked at your photo essay "Book" Gramp -- a True story about living with dying" many times when i was in college in 1976. it wasn't even a book really just loose, printed plates inside a plastic bag, with your story comments at the bottom. This had great impact on me even back then at age 18. Now I'm 66 and my father just died and went through nearly same story. I own a copy and share it with anyone who comes over. How can I get in touch with you to thank you?

Mark, I have heard so much about you it is great to catch up a bit through this video. I took over the 7th PID in late Dec of 70. Bernie was still there and would always regale us with stories of your exploits. Steve Warner was also there. We lost him in early February up North near the Rock Pile. I expect you derosed in late 70 a bit before I came onboard. I spent about 6 months w the First Cav before I joined Col Mock's operation so I was only there 6 months. Glad to hear you are well and recovering. Been there and did that 19 years ago. Be well and have a great day every day.

Thank you for sharing. You are a photojournalist and you are doing something wonderfully. You are telling us your story honestly and we all can learn from it. A good picture tells more as many words and your story is touching our hearts. Somebody has to tell us the story and this is very important.

I'm a Vietnam combat veteran. I have the same reaction to exploding fireworks. If you want to light exploding fireworks please consider anyone near you who might be a combat vet suffering with PTSD.

So true, Eric. And it's something that I never thought about until producing this documentary on Mark. I never think of fireworks the same now.
