I was involved in performance plans, among other things, and wondered how many times I have seen college football coach's unable to recognize real talent sitting on the bench. Same Mountaineers, coach Rod, losing to Louisville badly, quarterback get injured, sends in Pat White and Steve Slaton and the rest is history.

Doege came in in May and we weren't even sure he was going to be able to play until August. He was getting 3rd team / scout team reps all Summer and Fall camp. It would've been a terrible idea to start him week 1. By throwing him in when we did, we're now able to get a shitload of real game experience and still redshirt him.
