In this video, we are at a cemetery in the Somme; Pigeon Ravine Cemetery.
It’s a personal tribute to my great great Uncle. He was in the 2nd Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment and they were here in 1918 between 28th and 29th of September.
Their objective was to lead a diversionary attack in the Targelle Valley not far from the village of Epehy.
The diversionary attack was vital to aid the British troops at Riqueval Bridge where they succeeded in breaking the Hindenburg Line later on the same day.

Great vlog guys thank you for taking us to some amazing cemeteries very emotional, you can imagine how scared the soldiers must have been but still they battled on to the end so many young lives lost. Neil & Shell 💙❤️

@@yorkshiresfinestpair Absolutely. It’s been a journey and quite a bit of it has been a personal one. So, we did get a bit nerdy and geeky quite a bit ! Not a place to banter so to speak , sure you understand 😊😊 It feels very humbling to know that one of your ancestors gave their lives for the future. Thanks for watching and your comment, alway appreciated James and Karen 💙❤️🥰

Thankyou both. Know very little about both wars but your journey is enlightening me and really a great tribute to the pointless loss of life and scale of the sacrifice. Thankyou again.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4irp6OrjJhlf6Msi=r-r5I5rkVQiaivNM You might want to watch this Peter? Karen asked Steven Upton if he would film Pigeon Ravine Cemetery and mention Dick Thompson which he very kindly did. It’s worth looking at Steven’s other videos with battle descriptions.

@@RBcymru yes such a waste of many young lives. I too have two more relatives listed on the Menin Gate but due to some repair work going on, I was unable to find their names. 💙
