Chinese (German trained unit) hold out at Shanghai would be a better title as that is what this film is based off of. They wear Stahlhelms and use German equipment such as Stielhandgranate’s and Mauser Karabiner 98K’s as Germany supplied them with that equipment prior to the invasion of Poland (September 1939.) also an extra note, the Sino-Japanese theatre of WW2 (and prior to the break out of WW2) was probably one of the bloodiest theatres you could have possibly fought in. Also, the battle of Shanghai is sometimes referred to as “the Chinese version of Stalingrad” as it parallels the Soviet battle for Stalingrad on the eastern front (during the German invasion of the USSR, советский-союз.) Just wanted to stop by and give people some information in case some people didn’t know what this was about and if anyone was confused about the title.

and also a unique fact about the Indonesian defenders of the homeland (PETA): This homeland defense army was formed by the Japanese during its colonial period in Indonesia and the task of the PETA army was to fight against the allies and were also forced to be guards in forced labor camps or other commonly known as romusha. and at that time there was once a soldier from PETA who wanted to carry out a rebellion in Blitar to seize independence but the rebellion failed miserably. As a result, he disappeared from Indonesia so as not to be sought by the Japanese army until Indonesia's independence he did not show himself and the following year he was considered dead by the people and was also considered a hero of Indonesia.

The Chinese 87th and 88th division did not really use German equipment. Besides the helmet and the grenades, they used mostly Chinese made or copied equipment. For example, the standard issue rifle is a copy of the Commission 1924 model, which is called the Chiang Kai-Shek Rifle or Zhong Zheng Style Rifle (7.92mm Mauser). Other divisions would still have many older Hanyang Style Rifle, a copy of the Gewehr 88. Chinese do not have MG34, but still uses Maxim gun and each squad's primary fire power is the Czech ZB 26 light machine gun (20 round) similar to the Bren gun. China also lacked artillery of all kinds. The original plan is to have 60 of these division that are fully trained and equipped, but of course war was forced upon China too early. Chiang was still preparing for war and was hoping for 2 more years to prepare, but the July 7th Marco Polo Bridge incident happened and war came early.

Its a western territory in Shanghai the Japanese are not allowed to invade it
@twizz2955 Жыл бұрын
That territory was leased to either america or britain. At that time, the world war 2 was purely japan vs china, america, britain, france, nazi germany and the soviet union had not entered the conflict yet.
@MasterChief9687 ай бұрын
Shanghai was not allowed to be entered otherwise Japanese would have hence provoked war with US and Britain

The title of this clip should be: The 88th german trained division of the National Revolutinary Army.
@Lord_Unicorn2 жыл бұрын
the most stupidest title i even seen "Chinese German unit" so if a Chinese wears the Stahlhelm and suddenly he becomes German? there is no way you made that title because the Nationalist soldier used the German helmets.

They were German train, thus German issued equipment.

Those are not Chinese Germans, those are just German helmets what Chinese used, Chinese forces that time used a lot of German aided equipment.
@anson77122 ай бұрын
It's not aided German equipment. If you search up Sino German cooperation, Nationalist China purchased the equipment and invited advisors from Germany before in 1921 to fully develop the Chinese units with German equipment into what it was called the 80 division plan. It was to fully develop to use against Soviet Russia and the communists,

LMAO, the vast majority of the Kuomintang troops remained on the mainland, and only a very small number of Kuomintang troops(About 600,000, compared to his army of 5 million) were coerced by Chiang Kai-shek to go to Taiwan.

It looks like a propaganda film... Japan occupied Chinese territories from 1937 to 1945 (Capitulation of Japan) 🤫
@Wolfen4433 жыл бұрын
Is actually as close to the real battle back in 1937 as any film can be, it was one the first films released in China about the heroism of the Nationalist side in WWII, so it says something about how well it was received in China and the world.

>>> Excellent movie, *it would be good to see it in Spanish* . On the other hand, the German helmet (which many erroneously call: *"Nazi"* ) was adopted by other nations even before 1939 because it was perhaps the one that provided the greatest protection to the troops against the fragments of fragmentary artillery shells since the Great War. One such nation was the Nationalist Republic of China, which had to deal with the Japanese invasion for several decades as shown here.

imagine what would happen when germans were sent to china earlier to train their troops, talking about like directly after ww1, the 20 year peace period, maybe if they even had half a million german trained+equipped chinese soldiers then they could maybe even hold out japan on their own and repelled the IJN's attack, with conscript soldiers as backup and support.

Japan gets all the ridicule for suicide attacks such as banzai charges and kamikaze attacks, when in fact, the Chinese did it much more often. The Japanese had a similar situation to the Americans' Pacific Campaign, except the Japanese were fighting a numerically superior but everything else inferior nation. You know shit gets real when the Japanese fear from suicide attacks...
