Today we will take a look at the reproduction of the WW2 German gravity knife that was issued to Fallschirmjaeger (paratroopers) and flight crews. This knife is from At The Front www.atthefront.com/product-p/... a company that sells extensively to reenactors and collectors.

It is a cool history but this knife is not the greatest quality. Eventually I will get around to tig welding some steel onto it and machining it down for a tighter tolerance.

@@FreeAmericaChannel that sounds awesome. My copy is pretty ruff as well. But they are really cool pieces. Especially with the blade shape

A little more about your copies. In general, there are many minor differences from the original. The most important thing is the wooden linings, they are some kind of angular, square and should be streamlined. On the Polish-Czech copy, they are made much more correctly, although the material there is incomprehensible and, as I wrote above, copper rivets. Yes, and thank you for your information about these copies, that they are made in Pakistan.

You mentioned the Germans remedied the rattle can you tell me how so I can jimmy it. Only thing I can think of is adding metal to the side (weld) and polish it so it is a snug fit. This way it reduces the space where it can rattle. Other idea is a nub at the bottom of the blade where it is locked in place.. Maybe add material there to put force on the blade at an angle forcing to have no space.

Well I opened it up and added tape to the handle side to narrow the gap.. And it had a very noticeable reduce amount of rattle. I think tighter contact on the back of the bland and narrowed slot will significantly help. Note I did it on the handle side so it reduces drag of the blade internally.

@@MG_Sid I'll have to try that solution. It sounds much simpler than my plan to tig weld additional material to the blade's base and the slowly machine it down to a tight fit.

I supported your video with a like only because my theme is Fallschirmjager. But let's start with the fact that your brand is not Karl Eichhorn, but SMF. It's amazing that you don't know that!)) There are so many books, even two books are completely identical in content by the author Jan Peter Breuning, who at one time helped write the book by the author Makki Pattarozzi. From this it turns out that there are only two worthwhile books! Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the last book you showed, alas. And I apologize for my English.

Your English is better than my German! I have all of those books but am no expert, nor have I read every one of them, obviously. Any corrections and helpful data are always welcome. These are Pakistani copies and are not actual FJ knives, so I am not too concerned with them other than having the work properly as interesting knives.

Let's continue...))) As for copies of gravity knives. What was done earlier in Poland and the Czech Republic are relatively good copies. The most important difference is the copper rivets on the handle, and it catches the eye as a cheap copy. How much better they were in their functionality is debatable. The best copies were made in Czechoslovakia and Germany in the 60s and 70s. And this, in my opinion, is described in your books. Have you read them? As for the cord for the knife and the D-ring, in the photo you have pants, there is a knife, there is a cord, there is no D-ring. Why? Because there was no D ring... the carbine was attached to a belt loop on the belt of parachute pants. It's amazing where you got this information about the D-ring from. As for your copies, they are not bad and need improvement. The place on the blade to which the spring is pressed should be increased by welding so that the spring is strongly pressed against the back of the blade, and then fixation will occur. I did it easier, bought the original knives, but broken ones, and repaired them by replacing the broken parts. It comes out cheaper and maybe a little more expensive than your copies by $35-30.

I have to say that I have not found a good replica other than the one from At The Front. In truth, I have not spent too much time looking. I know good copies were coming out of Poland and Czech Republic, or at least were coming out, but I have yet to get my hands on one.

Hi! About a free America! You somehow modestly did not mention that this type of knife is prohibited not only in Germany but also in some states of free America!))
@FreeAmericaChannel
@FreeAmericaChannel 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You are correct, of course. I want to stay focused on the knife and not on the laws of ownership, use and carrying. The knife is legal where I live and the Bundeswehr gravity knife was legal in Germany in the 1980s when I first saw one. Here in the US, at least, laws and ordinances are generally the result of legislation passed by elected officials. You can change laws and elected officials at the ballot box, and that is freedom. If your state or local laws are excessive and you cannot change them, you can relocate as you see fit, and that is also freedom. Some people feel safer under controlling governments. They sometimes doom their offspring to the trains and camps of tyranny. Armed and trained people generally do not willingly load their families onto trains bound for death camps. That is what a Free America is about.

What you have listed, namely freedom of movement in the states, well, now it is probably impossible to move freely only in a very, very totalitarian state. And for the sake of a knife to move to another city in the country, well, I do not know)). Somewhere it is impossible to have such a knife, and somewhere to keep a squirrel at home, for example. Of course, these are small things compared to life in North Korea. But in general, in my opinion, there are more free countries where you do not need to move to another country or state for the sake of a knife;-)
@FreeAmericaChannel

@@Fogel505 The knife is just a symbol of how governments control the activities of the people and how people have options here in the US to change their government or leave it when they feel a need to. I don't think I would move just to be allowed to own a certain type of knife, but I would move to be able to keep my guns without government interference.
