I have the CASE XX . Had no handle, so I made one out of Red Oak and wrapped it with self sticking rubber tape. For years I did not know it was a WWII knife. It's the 337-6Q. You can tell it saw some action... No rust but used not abused. Thanks for your video Brother.

That sounds like a cool repair. These old war horses will last forever with a little care. I use one and it keeps a great edge for a knife over 80 years old. No BS American 1095 carbon steel.

I’m a retired 11H/11B serving on Active Duty from 1983-2009 and not many of us liked the heavier M-9 and we preferred the M-7 which was perfect in all aspects. The Army gradually went away from keeping all field gear light weight as was the main focus during Vietnam to much heavier items that just made life annoying in a tactical environment.
@FreeAmericaChannel8 күн бұрын
I absolutely agree. If they are going to give us heavy gear then it should be worth the weight and the M9 simply does not meet that criteria.

Thanks for sharing! I’m a retired Army officer who later worked as a contractor for the Office of Naval Intelligence so this knife has sentimental value as well as being a very practical knife. I have both the KA-BAR versions you have. I love them, especially the way the cross guard is shortened on one side so you can get your thumb out over the blade for fine work.

Fantastic! Looks very close to the day the knife was made! I own a 1916 S A US Bolo knife, the scabbard cover is in horrendous condition, stains and rock solid chipping leather but the actual knife itself is in perfect condition. Im from Canada and I was given what was essentially a ww2 yellow mutions crate with a bunch of mystery items by a family friend from the states and I was not disappointed! It came resting on top of a pile of gas masks and other misc equipment.

Batoning or splitting wood with a knife was a requirement for an outdoor knife up until the turn of the century. We shortly forgot it and picked it back up. Any wood worker would baton or hammer his knife through a work piece with a rubber or wooden maul.

And since I’m an Alaskan fan boy (2019) , I wanted a souvenir of my Anchorage, Seward,Juneau, Whittier, Denali visits. So now this KOA Xtreme Yukon will reside in my hunting backpack. You will not be disappointed my Canadian grunt ally. Use it in good health. I would love to hear about how it skins a bear. I have not taken a bear here in Virginia, even though the big game license includes one black bear tag every year. We have a big male that travels through the property every year and gets into trash cans along the way, but we do not mess with him because the trail camera footage tends to keep the city dwellers away, LOL! This SP Mark 1 wasn't the first repro MK1 from Ontario. They had a series of WW2 repro knives in the early 90's to include the MK1, Quartermaster, USMC para and maybe a few others that consisted of leather washer grips. I've never used either of the Ontario Mark 1's in a field setting but own them both to go along with my genuine Mark ones. I find the repro's are fun to collect as there were several makers in the 70's up to now with the Kabar (2 variations), Camillus, Western/Coleman and Boker. Probably others that I'm not aware of.

Like you I have a number of different versions, mostly WW2 era knives from different manufacturers and versions, plus a bunch modern versions. Do you know what to do if a Liner is warped?
@FreeAmericaChannel2 ай бұрын
It is hard to fix a warped liner. If it is a high pressure liner you can work on it, but low pressure or fiber liners are basically goners. No matter what you do you will create other issues. I have heated a high pressure Firestone liner in the oven to 300 degrees and then put it into a steel helmet shell to regain its shape. That can have a bad effect on the paint and you should use some kind of release agent inside the shell, I used regular Pam cooking oil spray. Once the heated liner is in the shell, place it open side down and put enough weight on it to help reshape the liner. I had to do it twice on one liner for it to work but it messed up the paint and had to be degreased and repainted. If your liner has unit markings and stuff it could ruin them. I hope someone else has a better solution and can also leave a comment.
