Fun fact: the first book about military drilling in Vietnam was written by former Japan Imperial officer, they was translated and published for every Vietminh troops. Japan have alot important contributions to Vietnam liberation from Western Colonialism, from building military school, hospital, medical training, police,... To directly join in frontline with Vietminh troops against French legion. We Vietnamese greatly honour to have such people during our most difficult time, and we called them "The New Vietnamese" (Những người Việt Nam mới).

Absolutely fantastic! As an Englishman coming into IJA drill, can say that i am very impressed! I thought our drill was superior but seeing (and attepting) the IJA drill i can really appreciate it. My grandfather fought the Japanese during the war and he said that he really admired their soldiery and dedication in combat. We are both bayonet ready as it were. Very brave fighters i will back that up. As a westerner coming into Japanese enactments, i do admire and appreciate the dedication and skill kf arms. Once again, a terrific video, terrific drill and fantastic enactment of a brilliant army.

The Japanese military actually came very close to developing differently than we knew in IRL history. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, the military was divided between reformists and traditionalists. Reformists wanted to modernised and mechanise the military, one of their most important contributions being automatic weapons. Traditionalists opposed everything the reformists had, most with reasonable arguments (especially mechanised warfare - Asia lacked the infrastructure to support Blitzkrieg or trucks). Eventually, the two came to many compromises, which dictated many future developments and consequences later on. Had the Japanese military modernised, they would have had good tanks, better aircraft, and modern automatic weapons. One other side effect of the reforms would have been far less military personnel, as the average soldier could now lob more firepower downrange thanks to a much greater availability of automatic weapons and ammunition. With less personnel, it would have been much easier to feed, house, train, and coordinate. In fact, many army personnel would have experienced better nutrition and health, like the chap in this short - there would have been a greater emphasis on defence and logistics to keep those fewer and smaller armies in action.
