You've shown, I think, why the Utility clothing style was so popular - it was so stylish! And regular women could buy for a resonable price clothing designed by top designers (which was a stroke of genius!). This style is your smart style! it's fantastic! I'm trying for a CC41 designer style for the Steam Train Rendevous :-)

Thanks 😊 Oooo, that will be awesome. Unfortunately I can't make it to the train get together because I suck when it comes to traveling. Looking forward to seeing all the pics though.

I don't know which I like more, the outfit or the story line that you made to go with it!

Per both my grandmothers, one living in UK after fleeing Germany during WWII, one living in US, both said the stitching limits was seaming only. At least that was their rules for home stitching, Gramma P (US) had darts and tucks in everything to fit since she had the beautiful hourglass figure without underpinnings that I inherited. Darts and tucks are our friends. Nonna H was a bit stricter on the thread limits, but 2-4 darts per item was allowed. I will say, I did learn how to stitch effectively from them. Linked here from the delightful Sew Biased, now subscribed!

@@craftingwithcasca I’m not sure how much their rules applied to manufactured goods, but my Dads oldest sister remembers never having store bought clothing until they moved to the US, and even then that was only play clothes were fit wasn’t as important. Gramma never bought clothes to anyones memories. I remember her saying there wasn’t any point when it took longer to fix than make.

Ok, the way you pin both sides of the yoke before gathering is so much smarter than the way I do it. Also I love the project, and the outfit is just lovely! Adding you to the playlist now!

It looks lovely!! Sew Biased says your good for the stitch so hurrah!! Oh and by the way no one is the standard size we just pretend. In a sewing class many years ago my teacher said that in all her years of teaching and sewing for friends she had only met one person that didn’t need alterations to the pattern. They measured her like 10 times cause no one believed it was possible!!

Thanks 😊 Yeah, I've seen a few videos talking about how the standard sizing isnt fit for purpose. The only things I trust for fitting me are jumpers from charity shops 😂

Boy you are talented. I liked the soft music while I watched and look at that catching the bobbin on the 1st try-AARGH! My husband taught me to use a sewing machine, but I didn't practice until I moved back to my sister's and used her machine which I could only sometimes catch the bobbin. It was so frustrating that I only hand sew ever since. I watched a video this morning, as I try to learn again, and it said that some machines are just cheaper and don't last as long. Well her machine was 20 years old by then. I'm telling myself that was the main issue so I can try to get confidence to attempt sewing again. LOL

Thank you! My machine is from 2001 and works better than the cheap modern one I got as a back up. A lot of older machines can be more reliable and were built to last more.

Also, you definitely didn't fall. 4 yards of stitching only includes seams, so you definitely passed!

Interesting, I wasn’t sure if this was official or just what my grandmothers followed for home use.

Thank you so much. It really was great to work with. Nice and light but didn't floop around loads so it was easy to sew.
