It happened between two mercenary pilots, both of whom were Americans, hired by opposite sides of the Mexican Revolution. This is awesome. Even more, so is the Mexican Americans who have fought in every war since the Civil War. In WW2 Latino's earned Congressional Medals of Honor at a high rate. What's shocking is that many of these brave men came home to tremendous discrimination and were treated poorly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hispanic_Medal_of_Honor_recipients

I commend you on your comprehensive presentation about the 201st. The little know final training for the pilots took place at Wendover Air Field in Utah. My father was assigned the task of final training and was designated Base Commander of Wendover Air Field. When the squadron received orders to join 5th Fighter Command in the Pacific, my father was assigned to fly with them and was squadron Air Corp Command Liaison. Here's a link to the Wendover Air Museum site about fighter training there. Take note of the group that followed the fighter group.

Sir! I became aware of the 201st Squadron a couple of years ago, and stumbled on this scholarly paper. The MAF student and his U.S. teacher felt the 201st story would make a good topic for him. "The Mexican Expeditionary Air Force in World War II: The Organization, Training, and Operations of the 201st Squadron" A Research Paper Presented To The Research Department Air Command and Staff College In Partial Fulfillment of the Graduation Requirements of ACSC by Lt. Col. José G. Vega Rivera (MEXICO) March 1997. It is sitting on the web, digitized (a big Google project).

Stinson Field and the museum next door in southeast San Antonio, Texas had an exhibit on the Aztec Eagles last time I was there. It's not a huge exhibit but had a lot of information.
Who ever said Mexicans can’t fight ? Obviously someone that never fought a Mexican. I did and I lost but not by much. We shook hands and he’s a great friend now 30 years later. Ps the narrator linguistic abilities are 2nd to none.

I knew of the escuadron de aguilas contributions to the Pacific fight. When I visited Mexico many years back, there was a monument with a P-47 honoring the Aguilas, but it was in bad shape with rust and one wing was slanting of the fuselage. The Aguilas represented Mexico honorably.
@guitarsarelikestupid72002 жыл бұрын
I think they should restore one or two P-47 to airworthy, flying condition. That would be *beyond* awesome.

Mexican here. In Mexico many people still think this: Those Mexican oil tankers were attacked by disguised Americans. Mexico then enter the war and its main role was supplying oil to USA. Oil was expropiated by the Mexican Goverment a decade before. So, the 201 squad and some other Mexican troops were great and do a really good job but they were in the war for re-orienting* the public opinion and cover up the main role of Mexico as a source of oil and some other resources. Now, that's what many actual Mexican think about it. I don't neccesary agree. I just share with you that perspective. *Due to Mexican-American war with the lost of half the Mexican territory and then the USA invasion of 1914 a lot of Mexicans in WWI and WWII were more akin to the axis. ¡Saludos a todos los que siguen este canal! 🤘🏻
