What means history in America? Invade in other countries and bomb them or pardon war criminals as your stupid «president» did it? In Europe we don't adore Nazi-symbols as in the USA where racists show them in public. What do you think why this symbol on the island was destroyed? Do you have any idea? Maybe because the Nazis brought peace and bread to the people there or because they killed people?
@southernman58394 жыл бұрын
Alpentarn History is what it is. People are not happy with theirselves are the ones that want to destroy history. I like to embrace it and enjoy the history of both sides. Study history and learn something and hope that we never repeat it . What you hear of a American President his told by a crooked media. President Trump is a great President with a gigantic heart. The United States is not a racist country. It’s the Democratic Party that pushes racism to have something to fight about. Why do so many immigrants want to come to America? The USA is a great country!

WW2HistoryHunter - I share your passion for WW2. I am SOOOOOO envious of the work you’re doing and the places/sites you get to see. Other people dream of winning the lotto and spending the rest of their lives on a beach or something. Me? Doing EXACTLY what you do. I’d live it 24/7. Like that island. I’d want to spend a month there. Or six months - WHATEVER it took to inspect every square inch of it. Maybe keep a log or a journal. Obviously lots of pictures and videos and possibly a treasure or two. Even read a book about the place I’m at WHILE IM THERE, sitting under an old embankment or something. Do some metal detecting where permissible and respectable. I LOVE everything about the history with WW2. The people, the stories, the politics leading up to and afterwards. I could digest that stuff around the clock and never get bored. But alas, I have a family to support so I must continue to work 55-60hrs a week, haha. Ok, enough blabbing for me. THANK YOU for all you do. I LOVED this video especially. Be safe and continue on my friend.

A fantastic find and coverage. Some serious road building to carry weight. Who is maintaining the place? Number of small trees removed from road beds not to mention the 24 inch tree cut out of the barrack area. I was thinking the tunnel was put in as a short cut in lieu of running around the perimeter. Noticed in the end shots the island has power on it or did since you can see a pole and cable. The cable you found would be interesting to follow. might need the metal detector to track it if it is under the surface. Well done video again with a serious amount stone work. The memorial is a shame. Just because they lost is no reason to desecrate what they believed in. Has the island been mapped for the ruins, that would be an interesting project. So did you have crab for supper? Stay safe out there.

Very intriguing place. Around 20:00 definitely looks like a cable termination to me. Could be 3 phase electricity supply, but what is interesting (to me 😁) is that the centre insulator has a different termination at the top to the two outside ones. You can see the one on the right is broken and is hollow. The conductors inside the cable would be separated in the black moulding below the insulators and a conductor fed up the inside of each of them and then terminated at the top. If you can look at the end of the cable, you might be able to make out the individual cores within it, that might give more of a clue. Looks to be a transition from an overhead line to a cable, either due to a building or structure that needed the power, or just part of the transmission line to go from overhead to underground. The size can be a little deceptive, as if the cable is being run a long way, it would be increased in size to reduce the losses.
@WW2HistoryHunter4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for great feedback and appreciate you watching.
@edwardcnnell28534 жыл бұрын
I worked at a power company doing cable fault location and I see the same as you. A three phase cable with a concentric neutral. From the insulator size would in the US be maybe a 4,000 volt cable. Can't tell if wye wye or delta delta. In the Washington DC area in the 1940s this was a common type of primary distribution wye wye system feeding transformers roughly 2,00 volts phase to ground and 3,420 volts phase to phase. Makes sense to have a central or a couple of generators feeding the various buildings on the island. They needed electricity for radio communication, phone communication for the island, lighting, water system pumps and so on. At 22:45 there are pole mounted overhead lines seen but if they are modern or date back to 1940s cannot tell. Video shows a single large line and those 4KV three phase lines were sometimes pole mounted. Open bare wires were cheaper but vulnerable to tree limbs, squirrels and other things fouling them. So sometimes insulated underground type cable was strung overhead which minimized such problems but offered a different set of problems. The island is being reclaimed by nature and is quiet lovely. We can only imagine what if looked like before man built so much there. Anyway the mosquitoes seem to appreciate it.

Very interesting video. Were you planning to do more research on exactly why the Germans chose that location? Probably not, eh? But I know there are others who might like to take a little time to see what information could be discovered about that island and it's reason for being. There must be several sources when one might find that information since it appears to be a very large operation and investment of German recourses. Again...a major bit of information which stops any of us from investigating further is...Location...location...location. Without that part of the Context, we have nothing.

@@WW2HistoryHunter you think they were testing a rail gun cause of the power conducter lieces
@dalehovland32834 жыл бұрын
A rail gun would explain the width ,curvature and degree of the grades of the road.
You seem to have stumbled on a test or development range for what looks like a high energy weapon. The P.O.W. Camp would be like a shield to keep allies from bombing it and the heavy fortifications would stop any beach landing attempt to free the prisoners. Not being able to shell or bomb without endangering the prisoners, the allies would be at a great disadvantage in a beach assault. Whatever was there required a lot of electricity by the size of the insulators in the "3 way" configuration plus the size of the wire. This insulators and the wire are like the ones that hang from the tall towers carrying hundreds of thousands of volts. Anybody an electrician? How many volts would it carry? The machinery to supply the electricity and whatever was in the dugout must have been heavy. I'm sure the entire pit was covered by camouflage. Could the other dugout spot you found with the tile floor remains be where the engineers and scientists were housed? That whole thing could have been covered by camouflage too. The road would also allow them to ride comfortably from "home" to the "office" in relative comfort. Maybe something went very wrong and the monument you found was in their memory. If something did happen and the development didn't/couldn't continue, they might have abandoned the island early in the war. Or possibly they were unable to get whatever it was to work right. The date, 1940, is right before the USA got involved. They had plenty of prisoners by then. In your research, did you find anything about what period the island was occupied? If you go back there, look for any evidence of a good number of generators and a distribution center for the electrical connector near the big dugout place. There would have to be a place where all the generators were placed and the lines were spliced together to increase the voltage then distributed through the 3 legged insulator's wires. I'd love to know what was going on there! Please consider more research and another trip to the island, please, please, please!!! Whatever they were working on, I'm thankful they didn't get it operational. That could have changed the outcome of the war. I heard that Hitler called off development of jet engines for aircraft because he thought it would never work. If he hadn't, that could have changed the outcome too. Remember after the war the German scientists were sent to allied countries. The scientists that the USA got started our rocket program, NASA.

Well i used 2 different cameras that day. The first few scenes are just terrible as a result of that and the rest are a result of compression crash at YT`s end. will try and work around it until the prefered camera comes back from warranty :) Thanks

Question. Are you ever in danger on these walks?? Mines and ordnance still active? I know I've heard you say that you call bomb squad. But have you ever seen them deal with it? And get it on video that be cool. And your giveaway and stuff is that for patreon only? Do you have items up for donations too? Like I said before I'd love a relic from ww2 for personal reason. Again I apologize I'm not asking for a freebie. Just looking for a way to get some objects. It's hard to find anything here in canada lol

I believe the special gun had booster charges timed to ignite behind the projectile as it passed down the barrel, giving hyper velocities and longer range. Had the problem that the charges weren't timed well and it kept blowing up the barrel. But it wouldn't have required anything like a large amount of power.

Maybe the big cables, insulators and large spot were for the power generator for the island, for potentially radars, search lights, garnison and prisoners?
