I absolutely loved this debate, I'd love to see more strong disagreements like like that in your calls. It's really helpful for me to get the subtleties of the arguments from different angles.

Certainly the best show yet. Debate is essential and passionate debate (without crossing respect lines between colleagues) = high quality viewing and great learning for us users

It's really unfortunate that Brad constantly has to interrupt Nick. This not only disrupts the flow of the discussion but can also result in important points being lost or not fully explored. A respectful and balanced conversation is essential for constructive and in-depth discussions. It would be beneficial if Brad gave Nick more space to fully express his thoughts before jumping into the conversation himself. This would not only improve the quality of the discussion but also foster mutual respect and understanding.

Brett isn't monopolising interruption. If you stick through the whole debate, you'll notice it happens both ways. If you've ever had a debate with someone, where you're trying to get your ideas across and/or they are, you'll notice it happens there too. It's not malicious, it's just a part of the way that humans debate topics. It sounds like you wanted to listen to something that wasn't a debate, and that's fine. It's just not this.

What ruined the conversation for me was Nick taking his headphones off and echoing everyone's voices back to them (noticeable from 00:54:10 onwards).

I think this is the best episode. Innovations are controversial. So the arguments within a team which focus on technologies is also necessary. I tend to agree with Brad, even I don’t have any data, that disruption happens outside the legacy companies.

Personally agree with Brett more, whichever path is more convenient, even if there is a comparable decrease in security wih another hardware platform will win. Excellent discussion, thanks guys!

An interesting conversation, however some points I thought were missed. 1) A lot depends on Apple’s ability to force app developers to enable interactions with Siri. Already there seems to be a strong dislike from App developers towards apple because of there 30% cut, how will Apple incentivize apple developers to build App Intents 2) The fact that AI frontier models will grow exponentially and that data will enable a virtues cycle is set of strong assumption. There’s a very real possibility that all AI consume the same set of base data and exhaust the usual e data segment. Also there’s research suggesting that data based AI, ie traditional LLM/machine learning won’t be the way to AGI, rather a new form of AI will need to be developed 3) Almost all of these ecosystems know that by enabling AI into their system they are allowing the wolf to guard the henhouse, who’s to say these ecosystem won’t gate keep AI so that they can’t interact with them 4) Apple is actually not that far behind from these frontier models given several papers like MMU and others they are at least actively working on it. They can just buy data like others. If they really fall behind what’s to stop them from buying a controlling stake in AI startup like Microsoft did with OpenAI

Already you can just copy and paste an API and it can connect to it, theres no need to go through apps, if it has a web interface it can bypass the app. In a few years AI will be primarily agentic. In 5-6 years, an open source AI will be able to search and hack any app or device on your network from any cellphone. It will be completely hardware agnostic, if the hardware has the capability, it will run AI and AI will be able to control all your devices of you want it too.

Interesting debate - seems like there is an opportunity for an AIOS

It's time for Brett to came down off his high horse, and let Nick finish his arguments before loudly interrupting him. It was not so much of a brainstorm but a clash of views distorted by confirmation bias. Great mediation by Sam though :-D

For me the biggest problem with Apple is its price. It feels so obvious that their products are not worth it and every time I find a good enough or even better alternative that are at least one third cheaper I feel glad saving money. But I guess it depends on the type of the consumers. If I were a corrupt judge getting paid for not understanding then I guess I probably will buy the most expensive ones every time.

If app's go way so will apple...app's innovate. Brands = consistancy so you can't just ask for a chicken sandwich and be happy with what ever shows up. Will Ai get to know your friends/coworkers voices and personallity and let me know when I'm being lied to? Add a camera and I'd know who is dangerous and who is safe? Add Ai and geo location to remind me if I've forgotten something? Seems like inovation in the consumer market has not begun. Apple will develop it's own LLM and with will boom in 10 years
