However, you completely ignored that I specifically mentioned the Acclaim WWF games and even the gold standard of No Mercy had terrible animations for the Rockbottom... My only issue with the Smackdown games is the over exaggerated animations probably look good on anybody, but ridiculous when done to big guys like Big Show... That's why I lean more towards current animations - it looks good on anybody, from Big Show to Rey Mysterio Jr... That's what I appreciate.

Hell no, that swimming motion just looked weird to, good riddance to that animation... If you watch any compilation, the Rockbottom we have now, 4:24 onward in WWE 2K, is literally how The Rock hits the Rockbottom 90% of the time - he goes up and down with the Rockbottom, not left nor right in a swimming motion... Yes, the Directional Throw feature is nice, but it doesn't apply here, because he generally slams them flat where they stand, hence the perfect setup for the People's Elbow... Granted, with smaller guys he may fly a little in the arcade-style older games, but it definitely doesn't look good when performed on the bigger guys, while WWE 2K now has the animation that looks great on anyone, the perfect medium... I think that was the goal, an animation that looks good on anyone, and they nailed it for just about every finisher throughout the game... Only thing wrong with the Rockbottom animation that I can see is I wish it had a pin-combo... Other than that, in my opinion, it looks great Laying the Smackdown on anyone from Rey Mysterio to Andre The Giant.

That's because it wasn't his finisher in those games. It was relegated to a strong grapple (The PS1 SmackDown games only had one finisher per wrestler, instead of the two we're used to from JBI onwards).

Such a simple move, it's just a very cool looking modified side slam, and The Rock made it look awesome - late in the match, that was always a great way to finish the match... I feel the Attitude Era was peak for finishing moves, meaning we had so many awesome finishers from so many in that generation, more than any other generation, in my opinion... While people complain the generations before finishers were too basic, which they were, a lot of the finishers then are basic moves, to now today every move has just about been done, there isn't really anything we haven't seen before... So, I feel bad for today's wrestlers, because they have bring back an old finisher that's been done before or they have to come up with something so complicated that's it ruins the suspension of disbelief.

Once Rock became bigger they targeted Rock and other top Blacks like Booker T in the games. From about svr 2007 to 2k22 it’s been bashing those Black stars. To play as Booker T and The Rock in smack down vs raw 2007 and compare the gameplay to wwe2k23 and it’s no contest. 2007 captures the body language of the starts magically! They removed mostly all the animations from that era that made it all amazing now it’s a lack luster version of the past. Both still don’t have a move set that comes close to the work in 2007..
