Just idle speculation, but I think the biggest strike against Demolition was the long and messy replacement of Ax with Crush (presumably for health reasons, although I have no details). A great many fans, myself included, just didn't see any point to the team without Ax. Also, the heel turn was just plain _stupid._ These are two tongue-waggling party animals in S&M underwear and bright face paint. How the hell was anyone supposed to take them seriously as heels?? Earthquake? He left for WCW and got turned into the world's fattest shark, and that was all she wrote for _his_ Hall of Fame chances.

@@hawaiidkw1 Agreed. Demolition was never the same once it was no longer just Ax and Smash. (And yes, Ax had health issues.) Changing their theme music, turning them heels, and adding Crush were all desperate moves that backfired, though Smash & Crush had a decent match at WrestleMania VII. I also don't understand why they just didn't let Smash continue as a solo wrestler as opposed to repackaging him as a character as terrible as the Repo Man, who had no credibility.

One of my favorite games but the AI was so stupid. Instead of doing the same thing over and over, mix in some submissions and tag team work. It would be a more interesting watch.

The really annoying thing about playing as Demolition (other than the lack of a truly killer move, such as Slaughter's gut buster or Warrior's flying clothesline) is... well, you had to play as _Demolition._ Smash and Crush, Crush and Smash, forever joined at the select screen. This complete lack of flexibility was a _big_ no sell for a lot of players, myself included. Also, as you no doubt discovered pretty quickly (like me 😁), running attacks (without any of that "Whip 'o The Irish" nonsense) are the cornerstone to winning. I remember getting a 1 credit clear with Jake and either Warrior or Dibiase. That spinning elbow just flat-out owned. Unfortunately, the shoulder ram and dropkick are by far the _worst_ two running attacks in the game. I tried them once with Slaughter and Perfect, respectively, and the opponent would just duck every time. To be able to connect with either consistently speaks to plenty of dedication to this game and this team, which is what I find the most impressive of all about this run.

Enable the cheats in MAME emulation and you can play as either member of Demolition, plus any other character in the Saturday Night's Main Event mode! The member would be Crush, obviously, as he's got a much better moveset :)
