Best deal I ever got on a car was a dark brown 428/66' Landau T-Bird, same car that went for $33K. I bought in 1983 from the original little old lady for $650. A one-owner in perfect condition - she, with her dad even watched it being built in Detroit and always had it serviced at the Ford Dealership I worked for back then. Same day I bought I was offed $2K but turned down. After watching that pasty yellow sell for $33K, almost kicked myself until I did the math. 507% increase in purchase/sell price. But---40 years in between. If my math is correct, that's only 12.7% net per year appreciation--not including maintenance, storage, auction cost, etc. Should have taken the $2K I was offered the same day I bought. Instead, I "totaled" that same night after only driving 100 miles. But fortunately, sold it for $650 to a junk yard that specialized in "to be classic" Fords and it was towed away (before my dad got home) for free. Except--then I had to break it to the little old lady what had happened, that still hurts.
