Americans these days just want to gravel at the feet of the rich begging the rich to take care of them. Such lazy welfare recipients we've become. I did not know that. It’s so interesting about original casting in famous parts that didn’t go thru. Tom Selleck for Raiders of the Lost Ark before Harrison Ford. The only reason it didn’t work out is because CBS didn’t let Selleck do it because Of schedule conflict with Magnum PI. Kate Jackson over Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer. Same situation with TV commitment. Huge Jackman turned down the role in Chicago that eventually went to Richard Gere. He said he regretted that decision.

Another "Titanic" fact CHER was offered the part as Rose's mother but turned it down. She did love the film when it came out though. At that years Oscars CHER attended and her Bob Mackie created dress included a major hat that represented the hats worn in the early 1900's during the period the tragic great "Titanic" sank. Reba & CHER could have both been in "Titanic" . Now that would have been great to have in the can!

I'll have to do some research but I'm not 100% sure about the Titanic story. I have a whole book about the making of the movie plus the Blu-rays with all the commentaries and documentaries and I don't recall her name ever being mentioned once. Besides, Kathy Bates is not only an Academy Award winner but also looks almost identical to the real Molly Brown. So it's a little difficult to believe that she was only the second choice for the role. Around the same time there was a television miniseries being produced that featured Marilu Henner from Taxi as Molly Brown so I find the more likely she was talking about that rather than the James Cameron film

Rose was a red head, Rose's mom was a red head. Reba as a red headed Kathy Bates would have been distracting and would have taken away from the movie. However, I think she would have done a wonderful job. She's amazing.

doug avila having seen her in other parts. No I have to disagree. The woman cannot act. Not in a serious part anyway. She’s fine on a sitcom but she would have stuck out in that movie like a sore thumb and again I point to the fact that she does not resemble the real woman in anyway shape or form. Bates should have been cast straight away. That’s if it is even true. Sometimes these stories are confirmed by celebrities but actually never happened, they just make interesting topics in chat shows.
