75 years ago, an RAF B-24 Liberator crashed in the Malaysian jungle while on a mission to drop supplies to POWS just days after the end of WWII.
The crash site remained undiscovered for 46 years until a local found the wreckage of the giant bomber in a mountain gulley near Gunung Berembun in Negeri Sembilan State in 1991. The remains of the 8 crew members were not found for another 18 years. They were later buried in a Military graveyard near Kuala Lumpur.
Join Richard and the crew from SG Trek as they hike deep into the rainforest to the site of the wreck and learn more about this remarkable story.

The Trail
The Gunung Berembun trail is not particularly difficult, but it is exhausting nonetheless. It is similar to most Malaysian jungle trails - a mixture of orange, clay-like soil and lots of tree roots. There is one long, steep section, just after the halfway rest point at Gua Kambing before you eventually reach the summit at around the 6km mark.
If you venture onto the plane wreckage it adds another 3km to the total length, making for a 18km return trek.
On flat this would be easy, but throw in the undulating landscape and the 30-degree heat and humidity, and it is a long day indeed.
So stock up on food and snacks and take plenty of water, although there are several streams along the trail if you have purifying equipment.
Sturdy shoes or boots are also recommended.
A permit is required for the hike.
Travel Logistics
The trailhead is around 1-2 hours south of Kuala Lumpur, and a 5-6 drive from the southern city of Johor Bahru.
It is at the end of a long country road so public transport is not really an option.
We did the trek with Singapore-based trekking agency SG Trek (sgtrek.com/) who organised the transport, permits and local guides.
Drones
There are no known restrictions on the use of drones around Gunung Berembun.
