As Allied forces set foot on German soil for the first time, they came one step closer to victory, but their greatest battles still lay ahead. The Nazi Fatherland held many dangers; bombed-out towns, ambushes and creeping fatigue from the summer of fighting. Relive one of the broadest offensives in history as Allied troops home in towards the German Roer Valley.

God bless the Americans and allies... I wish that we had this America once more because after WWII the world change forever and America changed forever.. NATO was established so that the military-industrial complex in America could protect Europe from all the fighting. That's placed a heavy burden on American taxpayers. The government and the rich in America don't care because they were so heavily invested in the military-industrial complex and they make millions off of war. Our men and women are going off to fight and we are paying the taxes. The American taxpayers here are also paying for this war in the Ukraine in addition to paying for Ukraine's budget and for Ukraine's politicians.

I’m mostly agree! If America wouldn’t trip over race so much, we would be so much further ahead! And could’ve come together years ago to fight against the exploitation by the rich who keeps us in this constant military buildup. We aren’t even in a war after 20 years, but now every month we see the Ukraine leader over here begging us poor taxpayers for more money, and we can’t even take care of our homeless. Half the countries don’t like us anyway, until they’re in a war. Then when things go wrong, America gets blamed for everything. Just watch, Ukraine is going to blame us if they don’t overcome.

I was fond of history of ottoman sultans and tamirlane but one day i saw a clip of Normandy bunker having a round tricky air hole which was connected to another hole in the bottom so if one throw a hand grenade in it the grenade lands in feet of the throwing person after two seconds and blast .. i imagined the situation and kept on laughing for whole one minute until my tummy starts aching.. what a masterpiece this trick was ........ I searched for Normandy and then i ve become addict to ww2 western and eastern front wars ... Now i see two documentaries of it daily at night ... Salute to all those bravest men who fought this war ...

The whole Hurtgen Forrest situation was an unnecessary fuster cluck. Huge U.S. casualties to take an area that could have been bypassed and surrounded, cutting the relatively small number of German troops off rendering them ineffective. Instead, thousands of infantryman were killed and maimed in the meatgrinder that the skilled German troops turned the Forrest into. Thanks were next to useless in the sense woodland, and artillery could be just as dangerous to friendlies in the confusion that short range combat caused amongst the trees and hills. The U.S. command was rightly criticized for their decision to continue pouring young men into the Green Hell of the Hurtgen.

In war on Croatia Serbs and JNA is granated us all day. We have 4 morters and 3 crates of mines. And that was worth its weight in gold. a good marksman could do nasty damage to the enemy, and that was most often the case. I had a Serbian anti-Tank launcher with two rockets and one charge. But when the 2nd Company went to destroy the tank early in the morning, they ran to us after the firing and drank 5 liters of water. We destroyed it. You destroyed the devil, you hit the house, the smoke is white and tank smoke is black. We ask where their pitcher is. They left him and the rockets in the field. We sneaked out in the middle of the day, picked up a launcher (a good Russian one) and rockets in a box. We took them to the bunker, put them in bed and covered them with blankets. They asked us to return it twice, we pretended to be crazy: the Serbs took it away.

It’s interesting to see the comments here that say “it’s important to see war as it is: uncensored” War looks nothing like the carefully curated footage here. It looks more like the middle of a 7.0 earthquake with chunks of unknown organic matter flying around. Boots slipping on offal and someone appearing to stand post, a charred skeleton , without their face. That’s more what “uncensored” footage looks like. At the Holocaust Museum in DC, back in 2004, there was a gallery that presented actual photos of the atrocities of the death camps in 1945. The “stacked cord wood” optics we see in this old Movietone style material are the emotional opening salvo but look nothing like the sexual mutilation & gore that the Allied Armies discovered. I’m not suggesting that such graphic content be made available here. Only that by insulating ourselves from it and worse, calling this “uncensored” we edge dangerously close to repeating the tragedies.

What was the point of this bravery? It only made things worse. Harry S. Truman, the future President of the United States, said in 1941: If we see that Germany is winning the war, we ought to help Russia; and if that Russia is winning, we ought to help Germany, and in that way let them kill as many as possible. Truman was right. Soviet Socialism and National Socialism were both genocidal, aggressive, and dangerous. Instead of USA exhausting itself by fighting one of the two monsters, it could have left the two monsters to fight each other. If Truman had his way, whichever of the two totalitarian states won would have been weakened and therefore less dangerous and less able to take over Europe after the war. However, the war between the two totalitarian states, USSR and National Socialist Germany, was shortened as the West got involved early on (just as Stalin wanted). Thanks to this, the war between National Socialism and Soviet Socialism did not drag on into 1946 and the Soviet Union did not emerge so exhausted as to be less dangerous. What USA effectively did was to do some of the Soviets’ job, to expend American blood and American treasure in order to preserve Soviet blood and Soviet treasure. This made sure the USSR as more dangerous after WWII, capable of waging a Cold War and to threaten the West with a ‘hot’ one. In a sense, the American government served Soviet interests better than its own.

Interesting inlook into geo political power plays. But aren't you forgetting something ? All this bloodshed served Uncle Sam very well . It became a world empire after the two world wars. Just as planned......weren't the nazis initially not partly bankrolled by western banks and wealthy industrialists, who saw them as a convenient buffer against communism ? And to facilitate a war that would give a still somewhat (pre Nazi) democratic Germany the ultimate defeat which wasn't completely done after 1918 . A Germany (the Weimar Republic)with pretensions and ability to be amongst the three major colonial powers and become a democratic mid European power broker , which France and the U.K. did fear even more than a fascist thug regime . Although Germany just like the other European powers weren't particularly choir boys , there was nothing special about the Germans why nazism did fester the way it did there....with the 'right' financial backing that could've happened everywhere where there was a fringe fascist party operating, the U.K. included. Rather than help Germany to keep these thugs a lunatic fringe minority , they were bankrolled with millions to become the steamroller which started a desired conflict , out which some would emerge as a world empire. Some wouldn't want to change history , even if they could. The U.S. army bytheway , still occupies Germany , even after the former Soviet Union left and slammed the back door shut 30 years ago .

Bullenstaub Had it not been for the American industrial capacity you POMEs would have not been able to sustain that war. Aussies and POMEs I worked with on overseas construction projects told me that it was the American ship building as well as all the other industrial components England would have been isolated. Not necessarily invaded but certainly isolated. Whether you like it or not, the U Boat plague was neutralized more by American ships than by British, same for long range aircraft. Americans do not think they won the war single-handed but they do understand that they had the industrial capacity to fight a two front war, which incidentally would have been much different had Australia and NZ been alone in gaining superiority just from the industrial capacity alone in the war with Japan.

all the heroes of world war II, most or all of them have passed away and you just hear stories or read about them, that's true ,they're heroes. but for me, my hero, he was put to death on the cross, died and was buried and on the third day He rose again and lives forevermore within me, He is my real hero 🎖️🏆🥇

My grandfather was a german officer of the SS who worked in Auschwitz. He used to tell us stories about the war and how good was life on Germany till 42. Also he said they got along well with prisoners. The played games and even cooked together. He said there was a big bakery inside the camp and they used to bake stuff together.

My father was a US Army master sergeant in the 106th Infantry Division, 424th Regt. He saw numerous atrocities by the German SS from 1944-45. To horrible to mention! Including his on Infantry men and civilians. They were a hateful bunch of brain washed thugs, according to him. At the end of the war he guarded the SS soldiers in various camps. They were treated fairly by our soldiers, because our soldiers had a conscience.

Yep. Us “evil Americans” should’ve just stayed out of it like we wanted to. Because we’re jerks for not helping you out. Or “war criminals” for helping you out. Without the US, Britain would’ve stood alone. Funny we’re “evil” when Japan put us into the war by attacking us. Don’t start nothing. Wouldn’t be nothing.
