I’ve known Jerry for 60 years. I’m glad he is still kicking around. I remember being reprimanded by him in his office in 1964 for smoking rope in his back yard with his son Brad. He showed me a picture he kept that he referenced briefly in the interview. It showed him on a gun turret looking at the signing. There is an old saying, “It takes a community to raise a child” I was so fortunate to have him as part of my community so many years ago on 86th. We are all lucky to have him still part of the world community today. God Bless you Jerry and thank you for your service and your mentorship. You will always be in my prayers.

Jerry said he was 95 on that day, some empathy to wish him happy birthday might have been a suitable gesture?

I really appreciate this series. The interviewer is not an easy role. But sadly many of these segments are diminished by the failings of the interviewer. Some post production editing could help in certain instances. It is frustrating to watch one of these remarkable heroes struggle when their train of thought has been disrupted.

Wasn’t letting him talk really I was getting irritated cuz he is giving us the opportunity to hear history n she just keeps interrupting

I likewise wish the interviewer had just let this hero tell his story. We don’t always need to elicit precisely what is listed in the interview notes.

I agree interviewing these amazing Americans I’m sure is not a easy job . I wanted to hear what he had highlighted in his amazing story and found it a bit frustrating when he was asked to focus on other memories. That said I am great full to all who help get this mans and all these veterans story documented. I wish I realized when I was younger and had contact with more individuals of this generation just how important what they did was . Thank you all of the veterans who served . I can see these stories being made into a some sort of documentary, movie or special. There are just so many great individuals who fill what they did was nothing more than duty and I hear what they did and truly understand why they where the greatest generation . They will be missed

This interviewer does not do this hero justice. What a shame cause he is an amazing man with an incredible story to tell but she even goes so far as to put words in his mouth.

@@frankherrera2870 I remember learning in radio school decades ago that the best method to conducting an interview is to ask a question and never interrupt when getting an answer UNLESS the subject strays waaaay off topic. Then you either try to lead them back or ask a follow up. Always show that you know the subject discussed while not coming off as knowing more than the interviewee. It can be tricky. Always let them tell the story.

I agree so much with many of the commenters, the interviewer was horrible. I've watched several of her episodes and she definitely has no clue how to interact with these awesome vets. I feel he had so much more that he wanted to share and she ruined that for him. Shame on her for ruining his story and the memories he wanted to pass on.

The woman who did this interview needs fired! Quit pressuring our elderly vets to give the answer you want instead of letting them tell their story. Awful
@donquixote8123 жыл бұрын
not fired. she just needs to learn to be patient and that most of the time people will answer questions you have prepared with out prompting. that being said, twas quite annoying.

The interviewers really got in the way of this poor fellow telling his story. The interviewers should educate the themselves of a few basics before going in ignorant into an interview. Let him tell his story and get out of the way.

She is one of the best interviewers I have come across on these films. Also Japan was on its knees leading upto the criminal bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even McArthur said this as well as many other US high ranking people.
