I live in Texas and I see lots of people parking in handicap spots, jump out of cars and run or walk fast into stores. Yes, it get frustration when handicap are serious from walking, has to park far away from buildings. My wife and I have though problems and see this all the time. (Veteran Spoken)

When DPW finds tags that belong to a deceased person, that vehicle should be ticketed and impounded. Using someone elses tag is wrong, illegal and just goes to show how little concern any odf these cheaters have for the law.

What doesn't make sense is why doesn't parking enforcement check these placards? I'm sure the workers are committing fraud in other ways (using a family member's placard), but a dead persons? That is low-hanging fruit and could make money for the city and towing company, not to mention any additional fines for fraudulent use of the placard.

I think they should monitor for a period of time, record it and when it reaches the amount that is considered felony, charge them with felony theft and tow their car. They will have to resign or get fired no other option, since it's a felony it has be adjudicated in a court of law. Do it for a couple the rest will fall in line.

Sending memos, public shaming and more news stories are great- I applaud you for that. However, why not ride along with the police who can actually issue tickets? Start towing repeated offenders and let them have their day in court. Higher ups send out warnings to employees but they're obviously doing any good. Should people lose their jobs? Where I live for illegally parking in a handicap spot there is a fine issued, and the vehicle is towed at the owner's expense. The towing charge is $160. The fine is $280. The vehicle is towed to the city pound. The owner of the car must go to the pound and pay for the fine and towing before the vehicle is released. The cost of storage is $60 per day if the vehicle is not picked up. After 30 days if not picked up the vehicle is seized and is sold by the city. This fixed the illegal parking in handicapped spots. This is the same for people park and block driveways and access points.

They should put the handicap person's picture on the handicap placard to help identify the handicap person to ensure it's them using the handicap placard. Let citizens take a picture of the violator's car in the handicap spot to help point out violators. I am handicap. I can hardly walk due to back and knee issues. I am in constant pain. I see violators all the time. Some don't have the placard up. I put a note on the car asking "Where is ur handicap placard?!". I keep my fingers crossed I can find a spot. More needs to b done. Wuts the point in having a handicap placard if u can't find a spot to park. Very frustrating. 😢👎🛑
