When I was a kid I spent all my summers on my uncles farm. His son, my cousin, was my age as well. They owned a John Deere 4440 that was so strong. The tractor Gods blessed that machine. There was a tractor pull at the local 4H fairgrounds not 3 miles from the farm. I can remember being a 12 year old kid with my cousin and we would actually just drive the 4440 straight there and he enter it into the stock class. lol it was an open cab and I would sit on the fender and ride shotgun with him while he drove down the road. He won every time he entered. That was a strong machine

I do not doubt it one bit. I did a program for a pull that has since fizzled out and the first puller 30 some years ago was a John Deere 4440 that was driven in. Also local pullers told me of them driving 10 miles to pull and then back home.

I'm confused about the scoring system. Is it pure distance or is there another factor?

It's pure distance, but the tractors are grouped into classes based on weight, modifications, etc. And the sled can adjust the resistance for each class so it stops all the tractors around the same spot

This is a exhibition class as well. They want to put on a good show for the fans and this is a lot of local farmers and tractor collectors. They hotter classes are very strict about rules so each puller has an honest chance to win. There are officials that inspect the vehicles to ensure a fair playing field. As distance goes the higher speed usually indicates the furthest distance. And a straight line where you avoid holes in the track is also a great advantage. Holes develop for every set of rear tires on a tractor and both sets of tires on 4 wheel drive trucks. It is not for lack of trying for track crews but this happens from time to time.

Yeah, I don't pull, but I build tracks, while I won't say it was horrible, it did look to me like way too much water was used, but then again, I don't know the soil type there either. The guys who stepped up a gear did power out, but I think it should have held more power than it did. I know you got to keep them moist, but it is a fine line between too much and the track drying out. Maybe they normally get a lot more sun, and that is what they were planning for, but didn't happen.

Man I used to think like that, "Come on man, your killing my videos." But then I thought, "I could move down a bit further up the track." And just then I thought, "That is more track to work after each hook." So there are a few ways of thinking about that. I know I do not want them running into the concrete jersey wall at the end of the track.

Very dangerous. There is no safety at all. This type of car is powerful, it can be overturned. There should be safety.

Most tractors have a kill switch built in that is connected to the air guillotine. Once pulled, the engine is snuffed out almost immediately. These do not, but at 10 MPH max, it is manageable. The guys sitting in the sleds their job is to watch what's in front of him and stop the action if it starts to get out of hand. There is also fire safety as this is a benefit run by a Fire Department. This is a huge fund raiser for that fire company.
