Speaking from a military stand point, press checks for recruits and green Marines(soldiers, what ever branch) at least from my experience, was a great way of instilling confidence that the weapon was loaded. When new to military style shooting and going through training with all its stresses, press checking helped with familiarizing the person with the weapon and making them confident in its functions. It seems to be easier to include the design on cassette style triggers... sadly cassette style triggers typically have more issues than classic AR style triggers because they often rely on velocity over hammer mass, which requires pretty stringent spring specifications to have primer strike power while keeping a short reset and extremely light trigger pull. I'm not a fan of most, but I'm sure KE arms focused on reliability as a top design and engineering goal, lots of other brands just chase split times it seems 🤷♂️ I've never seen KE triggers causing unintentional doubles in person or on video like a few of the other big name cassette trigger brands.

Jacob Bynum of Rifles Only explained the concept of the press check - using it to justify the Forward Assist - as you have demonstrated, However, he noted that often one wants to do it as quietly as possible - such as when one is in a "stack" about to storm into a building and one wants to double-check that his weapon is loaded - and that means riding the charging handle carefully home as it re-seats the round. That's how he justified the Forward Assist. He did NOT say to use the FA to seat a stubborn round. Having said that, I hate the clunkiness of the FA, and only buy Aero slick-sided uppers. Then again, I'm never gonna be in a stack that's about to force entry.
@karatos3 жыл бұрын
In that situation, they should have loaded their rifles well before getting into a stack. If they had been engaged while merely approaching they would be SOL with a cold gun, yeah? Bad move. Anyone waiting till they are at the door to load and make ready has already put their entire team at risk.

One of the gun safety rules is to treat every weapon as if it’s loaded until you personally check other wise (of course even then it’s better to keep treating it like it’s loaded because complacency could lead to negligence), even if someone loaded a weapon in front of me and hands it to me I will check again myself, that’s when a press check might come in handy
@chemistrykrang80653 жыл бұрын
Why would somebody pass a loaded gun to you? That's an unnecessary risk - if you fumble or drop the gun the muzzle might end up pointing somewhere you didn't intend it to, and the instinct is to grab if you feel something slipping, and that can (and has) resulted in fingers grabbing triggers unintentionally. There's a reason dropping a gun is an instant disqualification in competition. Just pass the gun unloaded (or at least with an unloaded chamber) and chamber a round when you've got full control of it and are ready to shoot. I can't really see a case where it's necessary to chamber a round then pass the gun to somebody else. If you're not passing a loaded gun, then you obviously check it, but you're checking it is clear - so no press check needed. I can sort of see the point of a press check if you've loaded and are in a situation where a "click" would be a bad thing (hunting maybe?) but it isn't really a safety check.

i’d like see different methods on how you remedy a failure to go fully into battery.
@genericpersonx3333 жыл бұрын
Well, the classic is pull the magazine, eject the cartridge if any, reset magazine, reload, and see if gun goes into battery. Minor fouling will usually be overcome by this. If gun still fails to go into battery, check magazine for obvious obstructions such as small pebbles or other fouling. If no obvious fouling of magazine, use a different magazine that is clean. If gun still fails, check breech for extreme fouling or tiny pebbles in the locking lugs/recesses. If yes on extreme fouling, just clean the gun like a civilized person unless you are in a Blackhawk Down Scenario, in which case press very hard on the scallop in the bolt. If obstructions such as tiny pebbles is found in the mechanism, remove them. This is by far the most likely cause of an out-of-battery that does not involve a bad magazine. If the gun still fails, strip the gun and inspect carefully, especially the locking lugs. As you can see, not a lot should be able to stop an AR15 from going into battery except literally stuff like tiny pebbles in the magazine, locking lugs and their recesses. An extremely fouled action with certain kinds of dust, dirt, or powder residue will have so much friction that you may need to use the scallop, but a gun that dirty should be cleaned anyway. If checking the magazine and mechanism for fouling and obstructions fails to show anything, you may have bad springs or even possible damage to the locking lugs, which is not common.

Sloppy is subjective, but almost all ARs have some upper/lower wobble fit, both my WWSDs included. As long as everything aligns and the gun works, it should be fine, but I can understand your concern over that being your first rifle. I hope you're enjoying it otherwise!
@mattfleming863 жыл бұрын
It only matters when BOTH pins are in. If it is sloppy loose then, something might be out of spec then. My 2 lock up reasonably tight when both pins are in. One is tighter than the other on the front pin (depending on the upper installed. If I switch, the problem switches with the uppers) but tbh as long as your hammer geometry is good and you're not sloppy enough to hurt accuracy it doesn't matter one bit. I think with the polymer and the pin that can rotate it just "feels" different. If I put a std. lower on that one upper, it has a little jiggle too.

Is there a technique to silently chamber a round, as in make the extractor claw engage silently, without forward assist?
@Kevin-bz8dx3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use the cutout in the carrier to push it forward
@Untamo823 жыл бұрын
@@Kevin-bz8dx I tried that with my "AR-10" (HK MR308), but couldn't do it. Had to assist with the assist :) ... But I'm a weak nerd. I assume it's a bit easier with the 223 AR-15?
@Kevin-bz8dx3 жыл бұрын
On an AR15 is should be pretty easy - since the FA also pushes on the BCG directly, the force needed is comparable. Now as for the MR308 - knowing how strong the HK416 spring is, I can only imagine the 308 takes a medium sized hammer to drive home.

sorry if this is a stupid question but could a WWSD lower be used with a .458 socom upper?
@dcstiger3 жыл бұрын
KE Arms/Russell do not recommend pairing the lower with big bore. They never tested the viability of using big bore. Try at your own risk. However I'm sure there are people out there that have tried it. It might be worth looking for discussions on forums ect. that have some real world experience with the subject.

@@InrangeTv That's great news. I also got a WWSD 2021 (OD!) lower. From what I understand the FA is really beneficial when the gun is suppressed and in cold weather
@randomnobodovsky36923 жыл бұрын
If by cold weather you mean possibility of bolt carrier freezing in the rear position, you may want to check this before you actually need it. But please check it with dummy round, saves you a lot of trouble. (Long story short: check how far back the bolt carrier can be with FA still working).

@tugboatyan3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't hurt anything 99.5% of the time. Some 0.4% of the time it wastes time as people mash it when they should've focused on fixing the real problem, and 0.1% of the time it makes the problem worse or potentially catastrophic. It also doesn't help anything 99.5% of the time. Some 0.4% of the time it just duplicates a function that already exists on the rifle, and 0.1% of the time it actually does temporarily fix something that would have taken more time to fix properly. *All numbers pulled out of thin air for rhetorical purposes, because no one actually collects any data on this - all anyone ever has is anecdote and, once in a blue moon, footage of it being used (almost always to no avail).
