So I am still very new to chess and trying to learn. Can anyone explain to me the logic behind not taking Magnus's undefended pawn on C4 in the opening?
@sadgetrollge56149 ай бұрын
I'm not Magnus so I can't see 20 moves ahead, but pretty sure Qa4+ wins back the pawn, hence the commentator saying that they transposed to queen's gambit *declined* when Maxime plays e6
@danielabraham30229 ай бұрын
magnus plays queen a4 check, maxime has to move or defend his king, and then magnus captures the pawn on c4.
@enderduck42539 ай бұрын
In the opening, one of your main goals, alongside development, is to control the centre of the board. If black takes on c4, not only can the pawn easily be won back with a move like Qa4+, but they're also distracting their pawns from that goal. So if c4 was taken, it would become easier for Magnus to eventually play e4 and d4 and control the centre better.

@dessertstorm74769 ай бұрын
If I play 100% according to the current engine it will be below 100% (therefore less than perfect) on the last engine and the next engine. Likewise if I play the Theoretical perfect game The engine will not say 100% because no engine is truly perfect. So really we put too much stock (no pun intended) into the percentage. Anything above 95% could be perfect play for all we know
