Both you guys are excellent with your prosody matching the pivotal moments and trends in the game. Daniel, consider adding ensconced to your already broad SAT vocabulary. Ensconced was a favorite word of Alex Trebek. Nice synonym for entrenched c5 Knight as used in the game. The other commentator almost pulled off long distance relationship with the pieces during So’s time pressure. Both of you would have chances to be well compensated commentators in other fields!

Wouldn't have been a comeback if Wesley hadn't opted for that weird trade at Rd8. He was just clearly better. As great as Hikaru is, he didn't force Wesley's hand here. Wes got carried away and gave Hikaru a lifeline.
@Tyrantofthewind
@Tyrantofthewind 2 жыл бұрын
He gave away a lead to simplify the game knowing that Hikaru is extremely difficult to deal with the more pieces he has on the board. Obviously he didn't want that end game, but he still only needed a draw where-as Hikaru needed a win.
@samarsinghholkar4044
@samarsinghholkar4044 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tyrantofthewind I hear you. But simplification is trading similar pieces with your less active pieces which are not crucial to your position so that your advantage increases. Wesley created an unnecessarily dynamic position when he was already winning, moreover he lost all of his advantage. In fact, the position became much more practical and easy for Hikaru to play as all his remaining pieces were active and well-coordinated, whereas for Wesley one wrong move and he could get into a completely losing position. All he had to do was to plant his knight on c6 and push his king-side pawns like a normal game and he was +3. That is a completely winning position for top GMs even against someone like Magnus.

@tonysu8860

Seems the organizers standardized since some players like Nihal Sarin which Wesley is playing for the championship is playing from Serbia. But, this is also not particularly new or unusual. Several recent Meltwater events played in Norway played with this equipment as standard even when all the players of the event were in the building. I'd imagine it might also be an effort to make the game more relevant and familiar to the e-sports world where practically everything is played and displayed on a screen, whether it's a monitor or in VR goggles. The rules and play is also slightly different. Playing online allows players to make "pre-moves" which take practically no time off the clock for the move and can automatically impose rules like preventing illegal moves and automatically imposing the 50 move limit without needing a player to claim.
