I'm pretty sure when Crocodile Dundee said "this is a knife" he was talking this one.

I do agree with you that Zero Tolerance raised the bar for tactical knives. This knife is superb I think that with this weight you could even chop with it. So it's collectible, it's a survival folder and it's a tactical folder. Superb.

No problem. And yes, I get it about the price. ZT does have a specific market segment for sure. It would be those people who put a high value on the knife they carry and want one of high quality and are willing/able to pay for it. They don't churn out knives by the thousands so it is not mass market. They do make other models which are more affordable.

That is where the titanium scale is thinned so it could be given a inward bend to make the frame lock.

Great review. As most people know, fixed blades make the best survival knives, because of their strength and reliability. If there is such a thing as a survival knife in a folder style, I think this one is it. I believe that you could rely on this one. There is NO blade play, and the lock up is unbelievable. It feels like a fixed blade in your hand. Is it an edc? No, of course not, unless you live in the outback or the Amazon. But, if you want a folder as a camping knife or in the capacity of an ultimate tactical blade, I think this is it. You could also argue that the Cold Steel Recon 1 Spear Point would make a great survival folder for a fraction of the cost of this ZT, but the steel of the ZT is vastly superior to what the Recon offers, even with their upgraded cts xhp. Now, which lockup you like better of the two is up for debate in my opinion, but make no mistake...the Green Ranger is a damn good knife that does have real application, even if it is not an urban edc option.

What the purpose of the notch on the reverse side of the handle?

OK, so I finally got to handle this knife today, and I have to say that the grip was nicer than I anticipated, unlike that of the XM-18, but this knife is just do big for an EDC knife. It's larger than a lot of fix blade knives, and that is just insane. I liken this knife to the Desert Eagle of folding knives. Really cool, but too freaking big for any real use. I'll stick with my Emerson CQC-7B.

I like this knife, but is titanium on metal a bad thing ?

Bob; IMHO, I couldn't agree with you more. I can't quite understand those complaining about the weight & saying it's not an EDC knife, etc, etc. Most carry 10-times that much in stuff in their pack they don't need. The recurve is slight enough to sharpen fairly easy, and if kept sharp, S30V holds it edge very well. They can complain all day until their 3-4 ounce folder fails in the bush or anywhere. I like Spyderco, and even Moras so I'm by no means wealthy, but you get what you paid for when it comes to quality and durability. If I had to have one folder to my life depended on, this would be in the top-3. Question? Is that not a Coyote Brown vs Green as mentioned? May be just the lighting? Personally, I don't care for the serrated model of this knife, but I don't like any serrated knives as a rule. Good review on an excellent knife that'll last you a lifetime. It is a tad pricey, but you'll only pay once vs. the cost of several cheaper blades. Let me know if there's a deal on one with the coyote brown scale? I'd sell a dozen if I could show it friends, family, & associates. Thanks for straight up honest review. Wm. ~

+Wm. Sturman It's too freaking big for an EDC knife, IMO. There's no reason to make a knife this big, except just to have it. I have very average size hands and found it difficult to manipulate the knife easily with one hand. I'm sure in time I'd get it down, but it was not intuitive, at all. There is no reason to have a blade that large, for most purposes. You can't carry it in your front pocket b/c you'd never be able to fit your hand in the pocket without having to remove the knife! LOL Quality is top notch, no doubt, and the weight really isn't too bad, but the knife is just too damn big for any practical EDC use.

If you've never heard of ZT, you're definitely NOT a knife guy. Aside from being extremely well known under the ZT name, they're a subdivision of Kershaw.

Man, people.. you get what you pay for. You want a cheap knife, buy a cheap knife and don;t comment on ZT. it's not made for you anyway. When I buy something for survival or protection I don;t cheap out. I buy the best and I save for it until I can. I have a buddy that buys cheap guns, always has. He bought a $750 1911. I have Kimbers and Para USA. They never fail. His are nothing but an issue because he bought cheap and not quality. You have to ask yourself... is it worth it? If you can't afford it why put down those that can? I guess I'm doing the same thing to those that can't. Sorry. But my comment is to those complaining about price. Coldsteel is made for you.
