I had been playing guitar and listening and studying Tony for about 15 years, I was early 20s, I got to take weekly lessons from Wyatt. He showed me those elusive notes in all the Tony licks I was playing close but not right. He showed me how to hold the pick, attack the strings for best tone (hand off the bridge!) all the spacegrass progressions, leads, rhythm, crosspicking rhythm and leads, and everything I need to keep learning for the rest of my life.

This is one of the most useful lessons on here, the man is rock solid in his approach

Wyatt reads music and understands theory thoroughly in case you wondered. And he is a super nice and as laid back as he seems here.

Great video full of bluegrass rhythm guitar gems. Wyatt is a masterful rhythm player. He does all of that so effortlessly but those crosspicking patterns, double or triple downstrokes followed by upstrokes are really tough to do up to speed. And to see the syncopated rhythms too, very cool to see those demonstrated too. Great lesson! Thanks Wyatt

So far, this has been the only bluegrass “rhythm” video that I actually benefited from. Love it. Thank you!

Wyatt is such a phenomenal BG rhythm player! Thanks for sharing!

It’s like the fiddle player took it as a challenge because I didn’t notice a pause for Wyatt to insert some cross picking easily 😂. Excellent video all the same!!

Love that tone and style. Breaks it down really well for the learner, too

I have never seen a thumb joint like that before. I wonder if Tony's was like that? Makes me realize why some are better pickers than others. There are people with joints that do things that others can't do. One thing for sure, Tony had those long fingers and that is always a plus.

Crazy that Tony would say he didn't have the best hands for a guitarist. Turns out he did

tony and wyatt both used their thumbs like that. its allows you to get that third downstroke after a rest stroke

Wyatt is not a good teacher, however, he offers a whole lot of techniques on playing acoustic rhythm guitar, plus he shows the chords to Manzanita! You'll have to watch the lesson a couple of times.

He’s a great rhythm guitarist but this is awkward and he looks like a bird. Still a good watch though
